THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

COVID A

DID YOU KNOW...

FUNFACTS

Your brain uses 10 watts of energy to think and does not feel pain.

An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.

Don’t like mosquitoes?  Get a bat. They eat 3,000 insects a night.

A typical cough is 60 mph; a sneeze is often faster than 100 mph. (Social Distancing, folks!)

Glass balls can bounce higher than rubber ones.

High heels were originally for men.

Tasting sugar helps boost self-control.

THE CANINE CORNER

kEIGHTLEY & SCOUT

Pictured above are Elizabeth Alexander's Golden Retriever, Keightley (left) and her bestie Scout (right), who is a Labradoodle.  Keightley is 12-years-old  and was rescued at 5 months after being purchased at a flea market and tied up in a garage. She is Elizabeth's pride and joy. Keightley is a lover, a cuddlier and the sweetest, most well-behaved dog she has ever had.  She loves peanut butter and would live off it if they let her.

Scout is a precocious little devil, who is way too smart for her own good. She is the perfect Yin to Keightley's Yang. They spend a lot of time together, love the Dog Park and taking long naps.

COMMONLY MISUSED PHRASES

COMMON

“Tongue And Cheek” Versus “Tongue In Cheek” -  A Tongue in Cheek phrase carries sarcasm, exaggeration, and even irony. “Tongue and cheek” can only mean that a cheek and tongue were involved.

“I Could Care Less” Versus “I Couldn’t Care Less” - This is probably one of the most commonly misused phrases you will encounter. Saying “I could care less” means you care to a certain extent. When you use “I couldn’t care less,” you’re saying that you don’t care at all.

“Peak Interest” Versus “Pique Interest” - When someone has reached their peak interest, that means there is nothing more of interest to them. Pique Interest means someone is intrigued by something and they want to learn more about it.

“Should Have” Versus “Should Of” - When you use “should have,” you often turn it into its contraction form “should’ve.” The proper use is “should have.”

TAKE-OUT FOOD IN THE AGE OF COVID-19

TAKEOUT

Is take-out food safe in the age of COVID-19? According to the CDC, transmission of COVID-19 mainly happens person-to-person, so your greatest risk is not in the food but in human interaction. Keep your distance as much as possible when picking up food, or request that your food be left on your doorstep. As with all person-to-person interactions now, avoid touching your face and wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds as soon as possible.

"It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their face, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads," the CDC website says.

While it is true that the coronavirus can survive for hours on surfaces like cardboard, there are currently no confirmed cases of anyone getting the virus from only touching a contaminated surface. According to the CDC, respiratory droplets — released by coughs or sneezes — are the primary modes of infection.

“It is always important to follow good hygiene practices (i.e., wash hands and surfaces often, separate raw meat from other foods, cook to the right temperature, and refrigerate foods promptly) when handling or preparing foods," the USDA says on its website.

The best practice is to immediately remove your food from its to-go containers. Throw those containers in the trash and then wash your hands before eating your meal.

MY COVID-19 PRAYER

My COVID-19 Prayer

Praying for all those infected with the Coronavirus, praying they recover soon. Praying for the souls of those who passed away from this virus and covering their loved ones left behind in prayer. Praying the elderly, those with underlying medical conditions and compromised immune systems don't get this dreaded disease.
Praying for those negatively affected financially by this pandemic. Praying for the homeless who can't practice social distancing, self-isolate or shelter in place. Special prayers for those in the healthcare profession who are on the front lines caring for the sick and fighting this pandemic. Praying for the kids who are missing meals because they can't go to school and get free lunches. Praying for the sanity of the parents who are quarantined at home with their kids for 3+ weeks.

Praying my family, friends and co-workers are healthy and safe. Praying this virus doesn't harm any pets. Praying the world recovers from this pandemic with minimal lasting effects.

Thanking God for continuing to meet all my needs & blessing me so abundantly that I sometimes feel a little guilty.

May God Bless us all as we try to deal with a new reality that is reminiscent of a sci-fi or horror movie.

Praying that Councilwoman Paula McCraney will get well soon.

Be well, safe & healthy.

Amen.
