The CARES Act passed the U.S. Senate on March 25, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives on March 27, 2020 and was signed into law on March 27, 2020 as part of the congressional response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The portion dubbed the Keeping American Workers Paid & Employed Act focuses specifically on relief for businesses. Louisville Forward has provided a summary of the relief funding created through the Keeping American Workers Paid & Employed Act and will be updating it as more information is available.

+ Substitute teachers, independent contractors and more now can file for unemployment in Kentucky
Individuals typically not covered by unemployment insurance, including self-employed, independent contractors, freelance workers, substitute teachers, childcare workers employed by religious affiliated organizations and non-profits can now file for unemployment. Those who lost their job due reasonable risk of exposure (self-quarantine) or due to caring for a family member affected by the virus are also eligible.
