Tour Returns Saturday, April 4 & Sunday, April 5 Old Louisville is home to some of Louisville’s most stunning mansions, but few have the opportunity to see what’s beyond the mansions’ facades. The U.S. Census will help determine Louisville's future for the next 10 year — representation in government, the allocation of federal resources affecting communities and families, education funding, and much more.  Mayor Greg Fischer and the Louisville Municipal Complete Count Committee are working to help ensure a complete and proper count of all Louisville residents, and are seeking the community's help in getting out the word. The official Census 2020 date is April. In two weeks invitations will arrive at households and residents will be able to respond to the 2020 Census! On Friday, the Mayor joined McFerran Preparatory Academy students and educators to announce Louisville Census Awareness Week, which is being celebrated with events throughout the community. Big news in Butchertown  The Mayor joined LouCity FC on Tuesday to celebrate the Messer/Harmon construction crews completing the Lynn Family Stadium project on time and on budget. The stadium is the centerpiece of a $200-million, 40-acre mixed-use development in Butchertown and will also serve as the new home for two-time USL Champion LouCity FC and a National Women’s Soccer League franchise. LouCity’s home opener is April 11. Learn more.

            The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to renew a FEDOOP operating permit for MISA Metal Fabricating, Inc. (metal fabricator), 7101 International Drive, Louisville, KY 40258 in accordance with Regulation 2.17. This is a standard permit renewal and removal of greenhouse gas limits. The 30-day public comment period starts on March 04, 2020, and ends on April 06, 2020. A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

Rarely Seen Mansions To Be Showcased On Old Louisville Mansions Tour

Now the proud home of the Kentucky College of Art and Design, the J.B. Speed Mansion on Ormsby Avenue has not been open to the public in decades. It has long been the most outstanding mansion in Old Louisville with an important historical connection to the arts. Hattie Bishop Speed was the founder of the Speed Art Museum in memory of her husband James Breckinridge Speed. Dexter and Jennie Belknap originally owned the mansion.

Many of these historic homes have not been open to the public for many years, such as the Judge Shackelford Miller House on Fourth Street and the Jacob Widmer Mansion on Third. The William Wathen House on Belgravia is considered one of the finest examples of Chateauesque architecture outside of New York. The Woman’s Club provides a rare glimpse into a classically beautiful interior and will feature an exhibit on Louisville’s Suffragettes. They will also provide guests with access to the Frazier House Garden, as well as a gift boutique in the Carriage Trade. The Crane House will give tour goers access to the mansion and a special preview of its Tea in Asia exhibit. The West End Baptist Church is opening its sanctuary to allow guests to see this historic church and its stained glass windows. 

Discounted tickets are $25 in advance and may be purchased through oldlouisville.org/mansions-tour by visiting the Old Louisville Visitors Center in Central Park (1340 S. Fourth Street), or by calling 502- 635-5244. Day-of-tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the Conrad Caldwell House Museum or online until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5^th. Children 12 and under are free. All tickets must be picked up at Will Call at the Conrad-Caldwell House Museum (1402 St. James Court) on Saturday, April 4 or Sunday, April 5 starting at 11:45 a.m.

There is ample street parking and the Filson Historical Society has offered tour-goers free parking at their museum and across the street at Third and Ormsby Avenue. Louisville Water Removes all of our Known Lead Service Lines

Louisville Water is celebrating a milestone in maintaining great water quality.  As of last month, Louisville Water has removed all of its known lead service lines that deliver drinking water.  This is an accomplishment that only a small number water utilities have achieved.  In all, Louisville Water removed approximately 74,000 lead service lines that were installed between 1860 and 1936.  Louisville’s drinking water does not contain lead when it leaves the treatment plants.  The risk of lead getting into the drinking water happens as the water travels through pipes and plumbing that contain lead. Louisville Water’s scientists balance the water chemistry to minimize the risk, but eliminating the lead service line is important.  In the 1980s, Louisville Water began to replace lead service line as they were discovered during routine work or water main breaks.  Then, in the 1990s, the company began a focused approach to go block-by-block and replace the lead lines. As a patrol officer, he served in the former Sixth District (LPD) and First Division. As a detective, he served in the First Division Flex Platoon and in the Criminal Intelligence Unit. He was also a member of the Dignitary Protection Team for three (3) years. After being promoted to Sergeant in 2008, he served in the First Division, Robbery Unit, Professional Standards Unit and the Public Integrity Unit. In 2016, he was promoted to Lieutenant and worked in the Third Division and Administrative Services.  In 2017, McClinton was promoted to Major and commanded the Administrative Services Division. Major McClinton holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science from Hanover College. He is a graduate of the Academy of Police Supervision at Eastern Kentucky University and the 136th Session of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) Administrative Officer’s Course at the University of Louisville. Major McClinton is married with two (2) children.

Second Division

Major Ryan Bates Bates began his law enforcement career in August 1997 with the Louisville Division of Police. He served in the former Second, Fourth, and Sixth Districts. He was also a member of the Street Crimes Unit and the Gang Squad. After merger, Bates served as a patrol officer in the First Division. He was promoted to sergeant in August 2005. He served as a sergeant in the Second Division where he supervised the mid-watch platoon, FLEX Unit, and Detectives Unit. In 2012, Bates was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the late-watch platoon in the Fourth Division. He also served in the Second Division, where he supervised the mid-watch platoon and Division Resource Officers (DROs).   After being promoted to the rank of major, Bates commanded the Fourth Division. Major Bates served on the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team for 14 years. He served on the SWAT Team as an officer, sergeant, and lieutenant. He was appointed as the Assistant Commander in 2012 and Commander in 2015. Bates has also served on two (2) task forces which were created to address violent crime in the community. Major Bates is a graduate of Xavier University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) Administrative Officers Course.

Fourth Division

Major Tim Burkett Major Tim Burkett began his career with the former Louisville Division of Police (LPD) in 1999 . He was a patrol officer and division detective in the former Fourth District. Additionally, he was a Sex Crimes detective and served on the Dignitary Protection Team (DPT). In 2007, Burkett was promoted to sergeant where he was a patrol sergeant and a division detective sergeant in the Eighth Division. In 2010, Burkett was promoted to lieutenant and commanded the Property Room. He also served as a Special Events lieutenant in the Special Operations Division. While in the Special Events Unit, he was responsible for planning and operating medium to large scale special events. He has been part of the command group for the PGA Championship, the Ironman Triathlon, Thunder over Louisville, the National Rifle Association (NRA) National Convention and many other events. He has been the lead on numerous events including marathons, parades, Muhammad Ali's Memorial Service and the world renowned Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby. After being promoted to major, Burkett commanded the Special Operations Division Major Burkett holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a cognate in Public Administration. He was a Dean's Scholar graduate of the University of Louisville's Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course. He is a certified instructor with the Commonwealth of Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training
