Dear Neighbor,
Tonight you may read about an upcoming investigation regarding alleged actions and activities at the Transit Authority of River City (TARC). These allegations are incredibly serious and should be investigated. That is why you will probably read that our committee on Government Oversight will play a part in the proposed investigations.
I am grateful that my colleagues see the need for transparency and accountability in this situation with an eye toward making sure these unacceptable actions do not happen again. We will also do everything we can to respect the privacy of any victims and the trauma they may have endured at work. I applaud them for coming forward and will do everything possible to conduct a fair investigation for the citizens of Louisville. No one should ever feel pressure to put up with unwanted advances at work. Period.
Thank you,
Brent T. Ackerson 26th District Councilman
Today we honored Lynn Beckham as Louisville Metro Council recognized and celebrated Black History Month. We are thankful for Mr. Beckham's service, leadership and friendship to all who live in District 26 and Greater Louisville. Below is his biography (abridged) that was read into the record.
Lynn Beckham was born in Shelby County where he was raised on a farm with eight siblings. He is a graduate of the Lincoln Institute in Simpsonville. He went on to a career at General Electric, retiring in 2000.
Since his retirement, he has spent countless hours volunteering, often using his skills from early development which gave him the knowledge of farming and raising vegetables. Since 2012, he has been involved with planting vegetable gardens throughout the community. Lynn’s personality and his giving heart have made these community garden projects successful.
These and other garden projects offer many educational opportunities for children and their families to learn about healthy eating and the importance of having vegetables in their diets. By introducing children to all the different types of vegetables and their nutritional value when they are young, Lynn aspires to have a positive impact on how children eat as they grow into adulthood.
Since 2015, during Black History Month, he has prepared food to support the “African American Read In” programs held in neighborhood libraries. Lynn is noted for his recipe for crackling cornbread. Last year, Lynn was instrumental in preparing the meals for individuals who participated in the Sickle Cell Association of Kentuckians “Back to School Bash” held at Mammoth Cave.
This past September he was instrumental in the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Bon Air Library’s Outdoor Reading Garden, also in the 26th District. At that event, which was emceed by Councilmembers Ackerson and Kramer, former Alderwoman Barbara Gregg was recognized for her efforts in creating the garden and we could not have done it without Lynn’s hard work. Of course, all of this could not be done without the help and dedication of Lynn’s wife Pat.

The Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is offering free radon test kits while supplies last.
You can request a kit by calling 574-6650 or visiting https://louisvilleky.gov/government/health-wellness/radon.
Radon is a gas that you cannot smell, taste or see. It forms naturally when uranium, radium and thorium break down in rocks, soil and groundwater. People can be exposed to radon primarily from breathing radon in air that comes in through cracks and gaps in homes and other buildings. Radon can cause lung cancer through prolonged exposure. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, behind smoking, and the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, causing between 15,000 and 22,000 lung cancer deaths each year.
The entire state of Kentucky is at high risk for radon exposure with about 40 percent of homes estimated to have unsafe levels. The only way to know if radon exists at dangerous levels in your home is to test for it.
