Valentine

February is a month to celebrate love.  I love working for and with District 5 and it's constituents.  It is an honor and privilege to be elected to a position that can help bring about much needed change.  A special thank you to District 5 Advisory Board.  This team is comprised of 4 - 5 representatives from the Shawnee, Chickasaw, Russell, and Portland neighborhoods.  We meet once a month and they are some of our eyes, ears, and feet in the district.  They are noting abandoned cars, vacant properties, public safety, illegal dumping to name a few.

Thank you for the opportunity to be a public servant.

Black History Month 2/1-2/29

BLACK HISTORY

February is also designated as Black History Month from February 1, 2020 - Feb 29, 2020. This is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans.

Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

From the first documented slaves in 1619 to the Civil War to the Underground Railroad to the The Montgomery Bus Boycott, to the Edmund Petis Bridge, to the Selma to Montgomery March to the assination of Dr. Martin Luther King, the struggle has been to overcome, to be equal. Dr. King had a dream. One day his dream has to come true - with liberty and justice for all. In celebration of Black History 365.
