The first Metro Council meeting of 2020 was held last night. A summary of the meeting is below.
Council President - David James was unanimously elected to serve as Metro Council President for 2020. President James, who represents District 6, served as president last year as well.
Planning and Zoning - the Council overturned a recommendation to change the zoning of the old Urban Government Center. This property had been the subject of a development agreement between metro government and a group interested in developing the property. That group withdrew from the agreement last month, leading to the discussion and decision last night.
You can view the agendas for or watch any committee or Metro Council meeting here.
The Kentucky General Assembly is back in session. Among the items on its agenda are additional revenue options for local governments. The rising pension costs faced by Louisville and other city/county governments have led to difficult decisions regarding the services government provides. With the knowledge that pension costs will continue to rise in the coming years, a bipartisan group of Louisville leaders - and local governments across the state - have asked Frankfort for help.
Louisville's ability to raise revenue is severely limited by state law. Even some of the options (like a restaurant tax) available to other Kentucky communities are currently prohibited in Louisville. If you believe like I do that Louisville should at least have options to help with future budget obligations, please consider contacting your state senator/representative here and asking them to work with us to find solutions.

I am looking forward to meeting those of you who plan to be at Café LOUIE next Saturday. As you can see, several local and/or state legislators are expected to attend. This will be a great opportunity to hear from those who represent you and share any concerns or suggestions you might have.
