During the start of the holidays we all count our blessings, spend time with our families, look forward to the future, and celebrate Thanksgiving in much the same way as our founding fathers and the pilgrims. President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 set aside the last Thursday of November as a national day of Thanksgiving for us to celebrate in my opinion, the greatest nation on earth.
This Thanksgiving at City Hall we have a budget surplus of $4.6 million to be thankful for! We were pleasantly surprised after all the talk of crisis and months of reworking budget priorities.
Metro’s Chief of the Office of Management and Budget recently informed us that most of the surplus was due to a $3 million increase in corporate property taxes, the delayed issuance of debt, and a reduction in hiring.
In District 18 some recent projects that we can be happy to check off our wish list: two newly paved roads, Lyndon Lane and Dorsey Way, the chipping paint removed from the Lyndon Lane bridge at Wood Road, additional speed control signs on Whips Mill, and a new right turn lane at Lowe Road and Taylorsville Rd.
May everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving as we look forward to what we can accomplish together in the coming year.
