The Chamber of St. Matthews is partnering with the Free Coat Exchange to keep neighbors in need warm this winter. Bring any new or gently used coats to the Chamber offices at 3940 Grandview Avenue. All of the coats collected at this location will be going to the St. Matthews Area Ministries coat closet. Coats can be dropped off at the Chamber office until Monday, November 25th.

Light Up Louisville will be held on Friday, November 29, with the arrival of Santa Claus, who will help Mayor Fischer illuminate downtown Louisville. Whitehall, 3110 Lexington Road, will host a candlelight tour on Friday, November 29, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. This is the third annual Candlelight Tour. Camp Quality Kentuckiana is not in the business of finding a cure for cancer, but in the business of ensuring that every child who has been diagnosed with cancer can have a summer camp experience, and year-round programs to enhance their quality of life and encourage quality family time.

Louisville Metro Government is moving forward with plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for climate change.
A Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Plan was released last month. Its strategies were derived from best industry practices and reflect the City’s best understanding of where current trends will take us in the years ahead. It is intended to be flexible in nature as new technologies and regulatory changes drive change in our community.
Louisville Metro recognizes that since the plan’s 80% emissions reduction target was set, recent scientific reports have expressed the need for more urgent and accelerated action to avoid irreversible impacts of climate change. In response, the city will continue pursuing actions that will propel Louisville beyond the 80% reduction target laid out in the plan.

Leaves are piling up and you have options for getting rid of them. Mowing over leaves to mulch them back into your lawn is a great option for reducing waste and it adds nutrients back into your soil. Residents with yard waste collection in the Urban Service District can also set them out in paper bags or reusable containers. St. Matthews collects leaves during a scheduled collection week you can see here.
All Louisville Metro residents have the option to dispose of leaves for free at one of three drop-off sites. Metro Public Works is offering a free leaf drop-off service through November 30. Drop off will not be available on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Only loose leaves will be accepted. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be disposed of off-site by residents.

For the past several years, the District 9 office has hosted a tax preparation site at United Crescent Hill Ministries (UCHM), offering free tax preparation to individuals and families under a certain income bracket. Each year the site depends on volunteers to help prepare taxes and greet clients. We have a few dedicated volunteers that help us out every year, but we need more! We hope you’ll consider joining the team!
If you are interested in volunteering for the 2019 tax season (January-April 2020) please email volunteer@labcservices.org. Make sure you indicate you would like to volunteer at the UCHM site. Volunteer trainings will start in December. Volunteers are needed to help prepare taxes AND greet clients. If interested in volunteering, please sign up by completing this Volunteer Application.
Tax-Aide Needs Volunteers
Tax-Aide is looking for volunteers to help seniors, and others with low to moderate income, with federal and state tax return preparation for 2019. Training for new Counselors (tax preparers) in the Louisville area is now available, so now is the time to consider this great short-term effort that runs Feb 1 – April 15.
