Thanksgiving Holiday:
City Hall will be closed November 28th and 29th in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Christmas Collection:
Our Christmas collection this year will be stocking stuffers for Roo’s Wish, a local non-profit to benefit kids in the foster system. The collection box will be in the first floor lobby mid-November.
Art in City Hall:
The Art in City Hall Opening Reception went very well! A special thank you to Councilwoman McCraney, Councilwoman George and Councilman Piagentini who participated on the Selection Committee. Thanks to Tony for making sure the press was invited and for creating a wonderful press release.

 Q&A with Sonya:

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? First comes the g-babies who I entertain often, and then tennis, tennis, and more tennis in one way or another. I play tennis and provide tennis programming for juniors and adults, predominantly in underserved communities though I also run the JCPS Middle School Tennis League.

What has been your career progression? I have worked for local or state government since 1999, first as a corrections officer for LMDC, then as an admin. asst. with LMHA, then for the state at the Public Service Commission, and most recently with JCAO.

How do you maintain work/life balance? I work hard, but I play harder!

Where would you like to go on vacation if you had a month off and money was no object? Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island…beautiful blue waters and very luxurious accommodations, but best of all it’s peaceful, quiet, and isolated!

What are your career aspirations? My life aspiration is to make a difference in the lives of those that are not as fortunate as I am and help them find something to be passionate about so that it’s not all work. Though my career in government has not always directly touched the lives of others, I make sure that I do on my own time.

Tell us about your family, kids, hobbies. I’m adopted and am 1 of 15 children. My parents are obviously fabulous and have been a great role model for me. I have two daughters, Linnea (24) and Sienna (26), and Sienna (and her husband Tevin) have given me two grandbabies, Aby (3) and Langston (10 mos.). And I’m recently engaged to my true love, David, who has taught me that it really is possible to love someone more every day!

Where did you grow up? Where else have you lived? I was born in Nashville, TN and moved to Belington, WV (tiny town of about 2,000 people and one traffic light) when I was adopted at 10 years old. I came to Kentucky to attend Berea College, and have also lived in Lexington, Louisville, and Frankfort.
