Dear Neighbor,

I want to introduce you to a new food pantry providing services in our area and encourage you to help in their mission.  Carole’s Kitchen is currently serving over 1000 Louisville area children and families by providing dinners, food pantries, and working with other local charities including Blessings in a Backpack.  Here is a link to their page and I am hopeful you can join with them in serving the needy of our community.  https://www.caroleskitchen.org/

Again, a reminder that beginning next weekend (on October 4), we have our next round of junk collection in the Urban Services District taxing jurisdiction, the former City of Louisville.  Please note the specific items that Public Works will and will not accept. As we learned earlier this year, they are strictly enforcing the guidelines and will NOT collect other items. We have a graphic below that covers those items. If you have questions, please call Metro311.

Have a great first weekend of fall.

Event set for next Tuesday evening at Gheens Academy

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) families and community members are encouraged to attend a Community Forum and Information Fair hosted by the Jefferson County Board of Education on Oct. 1, from 6-8 p.m., at Gheens Academy (4425 Preston Highway) on the campus of Louisville Male High School. During the event, families will be able to:

  • Provide feedback about the district’s student assignment plan.
  • Share ideas and input on what the four new schools (an elementary school along West Broadway, an elementary school in Newburg, an elementary school along the Dixie corridor, and a middle school in the east end) should look like before construction begins.

The Community Forum and Information Fair is an added opportunity for the community to be involved in and informed about the transformative work happening in JCPS. During the event, families will also be able to meet with school board members and district leadership.

Additionally, more than a dozen JCPS team members will be available to answer questions and provide information to families about several topics, including the JCPS Backpack of Success Skills, nutrition services, racial equity, school culture and climate, student supports and transportation services.
