v

On behalf of the Pleasure Ridge Park Fire Protection District we would like to invite you to participate in our First 5K Run /Walk to benefit The WHAS Crusade for Children. This event will be the only one if its kind held in the Southwest area of Louisville. This year the race will be held on September 21, 2019.

We need area businesses and organizations to offer their monetary support to host the event. We certainly appreciate any support you can provide! The goal both as a Fire District and the community is to demonstrate innovative ways that will generate revenue to help children with special needs of the Kentucky and Indiana area and this 5K event plans to do just that!

Please remember that your company will still receive the recognition for donating toward the Crusade for Children for that year (2020).  Once your contribution has been accepted we will then allocate your donation to the First 5K Run/Walk.  Depending on which Donor Level your company chooses we would be pleased to display a banner or sign the day of the event with your company’s logo on it. This would also include your company’s logo on our 5K run T-shirts.

If you would like to meet with our event coordinator or have questions/concerns please email smorris@prpfire.org or call (502) 356-1443 (cell).  I would be pleased to meet with you to discuss more in details about this exciting event!

KY Transportation Cabinet Updates on Dixie Hwy

sadfsfdasfda

Below is a list of projects overseen by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet happening in Southwest Louisville.

US 31W (Dixie Highway) South:The right lane will be closed at Algonquin Parkway Lane (mile marker 17.0) for construction of a concrete bus pad.

US 31W (Dixie Highway):  Lane closures and sidewalk closures in place between Blanton Lane and Crums Lane (mile markers 12.5 to 15.3) due to construction for access management and bus rapid transit lines. Left lane is closed in each direction between Kendall Road and I-264 (mile markers 14.2 to 14.7). Roadway is reduced to two lanes on southbound Dixie Highway between Blanton Lane and Upper Hunters Trace. Roadway is reduced to one lane southbound and two lanes northbound between Herbert Avenue and Crums Lane. In these areas where the lane closures are in place, the sidewalks are closed on the side where the roadwork is taking place. Pedestrians need to cross Dixie Highway at a signalized intersection and use the sidewalk on the other side of the road instead of walking through the construction work.

New Dixie Highway News

The $35 million New Dixie Highway Project includes building concrete medians in 15 sections along the road as part of the efforts to improve safety and traffic flow. The first section from I-264 to Kendall Lane was completed last week. The next section will be between Greenwood Road and Wells Drive.

he plans include building raised concrete medians with left turn lanes at lighted intersections and designated U-turn points in between. It is expected to help improve the safety of drivers turning onto and off of the highway.

“The safety component is you have less conflict points with people turning in between intersections, cutting across the roadway,” said Andrea Clifford, a spokeswoman for District 5 of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Currently, drivers can make left turns at any point along Dixie Highway in the center turn lane. Clifford said getting rid of that will not prevent any access to businesses. She said the design is shown to improve traffic patterns.

Building the medians is considered one of the most dangerous parts of the entire Dixie Highway project.

"It's dangerous for those workers," Clifford said. "There's a big safety factor there. You've got people out there working in a small, narrow space, with traffic going by, and sometimes those motorists aren't always paying attention to the roadway."

There will be lane closures for the interior lanes in both direction for each section crews work on. KYTC plans to have all the medians done by the end of the year. Then the final step, repaving the highway, will happen next year.
