Councilwoman Sexton Smith presented a proclamation to declare that the Louisville Bats would play as “Los Murciélagos” during the “Copa De La Diversión,” or Fun Cup - an event series embracing the culture and values that resonate most with Hispanic/Latino fans in 72 Minor League Baseball communities.

The Councilwoman particiated in Senior Adult Week at First Gethsemane Baptist Church with her long-time friend Eddie Plunckett. Everyone listened in during a very informative panel discussion with representatives from the Kentucky Attorney General's office, the Metro Health Department, and many more.

Shively Mayor Beverly Burton and Mary Nixon showed up to celebrate the soft opening of Old Forrester Hall in the historic Paristown Pointe neighborhood. You must see this 2000 person “stand up” concert hall operated by the Kentucky Center for the Arts. Beautiful garden and outdoor venue are being developed now. Father Joe Mitchell and Steve Magre were on hand to show their support.

The Phoenix Hill Neighborhood Association hosted their first Ice Cream Social with games, fellowship, and lots of ice cream. Make plans to stop by the next one on July 18 at Rubel Park from 6:30-8pm

Zack Pennington of Flying Axes "bellied up to the bar" supporting his friend, Chad Coulter as Biscuit Belly opened in Louisville at 900 East Main St. You'll recognize Chad as the owner of another great restaurant — LouVino.

Councilwoman was walking in NuLu checking out the shopping and art galleries and spotted art in public places.

Revelry Boutique Gallery at 742 East Market St. was displaying this beautiful collage piece by UofL graduate Jenna White.

Outside, the Councilwoman passed by a tree that had been "yarn bombed" - covered in colorful, crocheted yarn.

Next time you're in the neighborhood, make sure to find the butterfly and spread your wings!

Optimist International celebrated the organization's centennial year with its annual parade last Saturday.

Optimist International was established in 1919 with the goals of instilling hope in the hearts of young people and supporting youth programming internationally.

collage8

Congratulations and thank you for all you do in our community and beyond!

Louisville's very own River City Drum Corps led the parade and opened the Optimist Business Session at Galt House East. This is a college-going youth program with more than 25 years of success!

collage9

Councilwoman showed up at the Chill Bar to make remarks and help Louisville celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stonewall - equality for everyone everywhere always.

Councilwoman stopped to visit with folks on the sidewalk in the California neighborhood. We love you, we support you, and we're with you.

Final Budget Available!

seal

The approved operating budget ordinance can be found here - https://louisvilleky.gov/government/metro-council/services/most-requested-ordinances

The Mayor presented his budget plan, the Community responded, and we rolled up our sleeves doing the work we were elected to do. No one got everything they wanted and not everything got funded. I voted for the budget because it maintained a focus on public safety by putting LMPD trained Officers on the street sooner than expected and we continued to fund affordable housing in addition to the $41 million provided during the past four years. We responded to the many concerns related to homelessness by providing $1 million for sheltering and services. This will help provide for pets, partners and possessions in homeless circumstances. Complex challenges require common sense solutions and it is our responsibility to provide safer neighborhoods and better services for all. This includes basic needs for food, clothing and shelter.

And yes, we fought for swimming pools and libraries to make sure no one gets left behind. Not our children, not our seniors, not anyone.

There’s room for everyone to help our community be as good as we say it is. We need businesses, healthcare, education, nonprofit and interfaith communities to reimagine their roles and create common sense solutions. Together – we hold the answer. We can do this, YES we can!

Councilwoman Barbara Sexton Smith
