Give A Day of Service will once again be part of the Kentucky Derby Festival schedule of events. Set to kick off on April 13, the Give A Day service projects will be a week long of volunteer activities around the city.
Mayor Fischer urges citizens, businesses and civic groups to join in and volunteer – and for Louisville non-profit groups, schools and churches to identify service projects to participate in. You can contact Metro United Way regarding their need for volunteers to help.
Some of the organizations that will be available for volunteers to help include Brightside, Metro United Way, Dare to Care and WaterStep.
Individuals, companies and groups can volunteer online for the Give A Day service projects by going to www.mygiveaday.com. Agencies and organizations that have projects needing volunteers should use that same link.

Each month, Neighborhood Place partners provide numerous events and resources to benefit the entire family. Activities in April include a mindfulness workshop to learn meditation practices, a series of classes to help manage health issues, workshops that help fathers with parenting skills and much more. Goodwill voucher program available to eligible residents
Louisville Metro Office of Resilience and Community Services (RCS), serving as the community action agency for Jefferson County, is happy to share the news that Goodwill Industries of Kentucky has made its voucher program available through Kentucky’s Community Action Agencies.
Income eligible residents of Jefferson County in need of assistance for clothing, household items, furnishings and other supplies may be eligible to receive vouchers redeemable at participating Goodwill retail stores.
Program eligibility: To be considered eligible for a voucher an individual must:
- Present a need that a Goodwill voucher can help to fulfill
- Be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
- Reside in Jefferson County, Kentucky
Documentation required to sign up:
- Copy of picture ID, if available, or other form of ID for the applicant
- Proof of income for all household members for the prior month
- Social Security Cards for all household members
- Proof of primary residency located in Jefferson County
Individuals who meet the income guidelines and provide supporting documentation may be eligible to receive one Goodwill voucher for $50, and up to five vouchers totaling $250. The $250 maximum is a biennial limit. There will be no refunds from Goodwill if the entirety of the voucher is not used.
Intake procedure: Applicants can begin the process by either visiting or calling any of the eight Neighborhood Place sites. Ask the receptionist to speak to a Resilience and Community Services (RCS) staff member regarding the Goodwill Voucher Program. Applicants will be advised of more details and what documentation will be required to complete prior to the initial appointment.

Louisville Parks and Recreation news
With warmer weather in sight and spring just around the corner, Louisville Parks and Recreation is encouraging the public to get active and have some fun.

Adult Co-Ed Kickball
- Teams ages 18 and older, minimum of seven teams. Games are on Mondays and Wednesday nights at Seneca Park, 3151 Pee Wee Reese Drive. Registration deadline, April 26. For more information, click here.

- The annual Pitch, Hit, and Run competition begins March 30 at Petersburg Park. The competition will continue on April 6 at Wyandotte Park. Dare to Care Kids Cafe
Dare to Care Food Bank is proud to partner with local, non-profit after-school programs to offer free evening meals to children in our community through the Kids Cafe Program. Children (18 and under) receive a warm, nutritious meal in a safe environment. In addition to receiving a meal, each child has the opportunity to participate in academic and extracurricular activities. Serving times are Mon - Fri, 5:00pm - 6:00pm at Newburg Community Center and Newburg Boys & Girls Club. *Note: If JCPS is closed due to inclement weather, hot meals will not be served.

NeighborMap
The Center for Neighborhoods' NeighborMap is now available online! This new, layered map contains data on neighborhood resources, grocery access, flood-plain locations, tree cover and more. NeighborMap can help individuals and community organizations visualize and understand the assets available in their neighborhoods, and identify improvements they would like to see.
Students from UofL's Kent School of Social Work contributed to the project by gathering data in urban neighborhoods, and will continue the partnership with CFN to help develop strong neighborhoods. NeighborMap was created in part with funding from Louisville Metro Government.

LouieConnect
Louisville non-profits have launched a new website to help connect people in need of food, shelter, and more. Metro United Way and the Family Scholar House partnered to create LouieConnect, modeling it on a similar site created in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. When someone uses LouieConnect, the web-based app asks for basic information and then lists applicable resources nearby — from food pantries to shelters to career centers to financial literacy programs.
