You probably know by now that my Metro Council colleagues and I voted against raising the Insurance Premium Tax yesterday. It is worth mentioning that the ordinance to raise the tax would also have required cuts, so even those who voted for an increase also agreed that our City must tighten the fiscal belt and find ways to conserve taxpayer dollars. For that, I appreciate their work and their refusal to simply triple the insurance tax as the administration proposed.
Starting today, we're moving forward by finding ways to deal with the projected $35 million deficit. This was created by a mix of rising pension and healthcare costs as well as imbalances from prior budgets, and will need to be addressed by the start of FY20, which begins July 1st of this year. That will be hard work, and will be far from painless. But, at the end of this process, our city will be better for going through this process and we will know for certain where our tolerance for cuts lies.
We are still combing through the budget and looking for ways to save and economize. Our office has identified roughly $15 million in smaller expenditures that Louisville Metro should be able to absorb without much pain. It's the balance that will be more challenging, but that is what we're doing now. If you have ideas or comments at anytime through this process, feel free to email or call our office.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
- Must be owner occupied for at least one year.
- Not available on rental property.
- Must meet income guidelines (See Intake staff)
- May receive assistance once in a five year period.
- Louisville-Jefferson County residents only
TYPES OF REPAIRS
- Furnace Repair or replacement (October-April only)
- A/C Unit- Repair or replacement (Requires medical statement, Available May-Sept. only)
- Electrical repairs/upgrades.
- Water Line repairs/replacement.
- Sewer Line repairs/replacement.
- Water Heater repair/replacement, Gas or Electric.
- Gas Line leaks.

For residents of the Urban Services District, Louisville Metro will start regular Yard Waste collection again on March 31st. Individuals may request collection as needed through MetroCall at 574-5000.
