PVA Reassessing Property Values Throughout the City

The role of the Jefferson County PVA is to fairly assess the value of taxable property, which is important in determining the taxes collected to fund our state, cities, school districts, and emergency services. Sometimes the condition of a home means it falls substantially below or above the median value. That’s why it’s so important residents know about their right to an appeal, and how to go about filing the appeal.

We also look forward to sharing information about the resources offered to community residents by our partners and other community organizations. The PVA’s office often comes in contact with residents in need of assistance with home repairs, paying their tax bills, or navigating the path to investing in real estate in challenged areas of our community. We are glad to be partnering with organizations that do such good work in these areas.

Interior issues include, but are not limited
to:

  • Kitchens and/or bathrooms that are not updated
  • An unfinished basement
  • Plumbing issues
  • Electrical issues
  • Damage to ceilings and/or walls

Exterior issues include, but are not limited
to:

  • Damage to soffits, or the underside of your home i.e. arches, balconies, eaves
  • Foundation damage
  • Roof damage
  • Gutter damage
  • Damaged windows
  • Unusable or unsafe garages or driveways

Steps to apply: 

Step 1 - Prepare your appeals package to support your opinion of the value of your home. Documentation is important.

The Southwest Dream Team Unveiled the 2019 South Points Scenic Area Map!

This year, the South Points Scenic Area has expanded to include the South Louisville Business Association and the Louisville Independent Business Alliance, which hosts the South Points Buy Local Fair at Iroquois Amphitheater each July. Other additions include Khalil’s on Dixie Highway, a local restaurant that has been recognized as a champion for local fundraising efforts, and the return of the South Points Farmers Market, hosted by the Food Literacy Project. The market, held at the Taylor Boulevard Save-A-Lot, brings healthy, farm-fresh produce to the region.

The Southwest Dream Team supports strategies to attract investments in quality of life infrastructure for south and southwest Louisville. 

The Southwest Dream Team is expanding its programming to include a civic leadership program, to help residents and business owners alike to connect with local resources and become more engaged in their community. The team and city leaders encourage the greater Louisville community to consider exploring this region for the diverse array of natural and cultural attractions it offers.

The robust calendar of events is family friendly, and spans from historical, cultural, to environmental offerings. We encourage you to use the South Points Scenic Area Map as a guide to curate your own experience in south Louisville.

JustServe.org is a website where the volunteer needs of organizations may be posted and volunteers may search for places to serve in the community, providing opportunities to help those in need and enhance the quality of life in the community.

JustServe is a service to help link community volunteer needs with volunteers and does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation in posting projects or in encouraging volunteers to serve according to our guidelines.

JustServe.org may not solve world hunger immediately, but they're convinced that by serving with each other in our local communities, we're paving the way for much broader changes. Our individual efforts don't need to be huge—a little bit of change here, a few hours there—but even small efforts quickly add up to make a real difference.

As we work side-by-side and learn from each other, mutual understanding increases, misconceptions can be corrected, and new friendships are built.


Registration is Now Open for the 2019 Spring Brightside & Passport Health Plan Community-Wide Cleanup!

Registration for the Brightside & Passport Health Plan Spring Community-Wide Cleanup is open!!

The cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 13th with the suggested cleanup times of 8:00am – 12:00pm. (If the date we have set doesn't work for your group, that's OK, we will support any cleanup that takes place in the weeks surrounding April 13th.) 

All cleanup teams will receive bags and gloves at no cost, and the first 5,000 volunteers to register will also receive a free t-shirt. Brightside welcomes groups of all sizes, big and small and if you're not sure where you would like to hold your cleanup we can help with that too, just give us a call or send us an email and we will be happy to make a suggestion.

Supply pick up will be held on Sunday, March 31st at the Iroquois Park Amphitheater, 1080 Amphitheater Rd, 40214 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.

All supplies are pre-packaged by group for team leaders to collect. If a group fails to pick up their supplies on March 31, and they have t-shirts, the t-shirts go to other volunteers on a first come, first served basis. Groups who do not have t-shirts can call Brightside on Tuesday, April 2nd to see if any t-shirts have been returned.

Brightside is proud to be holding our Cleanup with the Give A Day - Mayor's Week of Service for the sixth year. Cleanups are an integral part of Brightside's mission and without the help of your volunteer group, and many other volunteers throughout the year, we could not achieve our goals of a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Louisville.

Kentucky Kingdom is Now Hiring!

Kentucky Kingdom announced that they are now accepting applications for team members for the park's 2019 season. Park officials said they need to fill approximately 1,400 seasonal positions in departments ranging from aquatics and rides to guest relations and health services.

Team members receive the following benefits:

Dixie Highway Traffic Lights - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Update

KYTC began work on the Dixie Highway traffic signals between Greenwood Road and Moorman Road on March 11th. Work started at Moorman Road intersection and will progress North to Greenwood Road. Each intersection will be completed before moving to the next intersection.

The new Dixie Highway traffic signals will operate on an auto detection loop system. Currently, Dixie Highway traffic lights are on a timed system. The new loops being installed will improve traffic flow by detecting vehicles at intersections. These loops will be installed at each intersection south of Greenwood Road. 

All sawing and loop instillation will be done at night. Louisville Metro and KYTC staff will be on sight to ensure traffic signals function properly. New traffic signals will be utilized after loop installation. . 


New Dixie Construction

US 31W (Dixie Highway) UPDATES: 

During a road construction project, temporary striping is often used as lanes are shifted and reconfigured. The striping will wear away with time, but is repainted and re-positioned as necessary during the project.

This winter, many drivers on The New Dixie Highway project may have noticed that the striping became worse than usual. Unusually wet conditions – with rain and snow – delayed the repaving of the temporary striping. Relatively warm, dry weather is needed to redo the stripes. On Valentine’s Day, crews were able to update the stripes!

Final, permanent striping will be in place after the final surface is paved. These are usually among the last parts of a road construction project – like icing on a cake.

What to watch for

At Dixie Highway and Lower Hunters Trace, the new sidewalks are wider – making it easier for people to walk two-by-two, or to push a stroller or wheelchair, without feeling too close to traffic.  

This summer, you will begin seeing new bus stops taking shape along the length of The New Dixie Highway Project as we prepare for RAPID, the region’s first Bus Rapid Transit System. Benches, shelters and other amenities will be included at regular intervals to better serve TARC passengers along Dixie Highway.  

Ensuring that bus riders have safe, comfortable places to wait away from traffic not only improves the riding experience for passengers, but ensures that drivers are able to maintain an efficient traffic flow as well.

Lane closures and delays possible at Burnett Avenue (mile marker 18.3) due to installation of a micro-trench for conduit and fiber optic cables. Right lane will be closed daily from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.   This process will take several weeks to complete as crews progress north to West Broadway.

Lane closures and sidewalk closures in place between Blanton Lane and Crums Lane (mile markers 12.5 to 15.3) due to construction for access management and bus rapid transit lines. Roadway is reduced to two lanes northbound between Upper Hunters Trace and Heaton Road. Roadway is reduced to two lanes on southbound Dixie Highway between Blanton Lane and Upper Hunters Trace. Roadway is reduced to one lane southbound and two lanes northbound between Herbert Avenue and Crums Lane. 

In these areas where the lane closures are in place, the sidewalks are closed on the side where the roadwork is taking place. Pedestrians need to cross Dixie Highway at a signalized intersection and use the sidewalk on the other side of the road instead of walking through the construction work.
