Tina Ward-Pugh

Former Metro Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (D) was elected to the first Louisville Metro Council in November 2002 and represented the 9th District.  After 16 years of elected public service.  Ward-Pugh did not seek re-election in 2014 to pursue other interests.  Tina returned to public service in early February 2018, this time as the director of the Office For Women for Louisville Metro Resilience and Community Services.  She is building on all the good work of those who came before her.  Using the resources of the office and her community connections, Tina is honored to be a part of Mayor Fischer's administration to elevate the status of women here in Louisville and beyond.

Women's History Month

this March!

Origin's of

Women's History Month

Women's History Month began in 1987 out of California. It began as a week-long celebration of women's contributions to society, history, and culture.

President Jimmy Carter declared the week of March 8th as Women's History Week.

"The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you're very courageous: be strong, be extremely kind, and above all

be humble."

- Serena Williams

4th Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Conference

HTC

On February 12, 2019, the University of Louisville held their 4th Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Conference.

OFW was fortunate enough to table at the Resource Fair and attend the conference. The event began with Dr. Jennifer Cole summarizing the research she had done in Kentucky about the sex trafficking of minors

Major takeaways:

-90,000-600,000 victims in the United States

-Services for victims should be more trauma informed so the victims can receive services that address the specific traumas they've encountered.

There were also two breakout sessions where attendees could chose from five 45-minute sessions with different topics such as, healthcare and human trafficking, student advocacy for human trafficking, an intro course to human trafficking, and the LGBTQ+ community and human trafficking.
