The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to issue a FEDOOP operating permit to Thornton Oil Corporation – Louisville Terminal (distribution of gasoline and distillate products), 7800 Cane Run Road, Louisville, Kentucky, 40258, in accordance with Regulation 2.17. The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to issue an operating permit to The Chemours Company FC, LLC (manufactures refrigerant gases), 4200 Camp Ground Road, in accordance with Regulation 2.16. The 30-day public comment period starts on November 18, 2018, and ends on December 18, 2018. A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

EPA has agreed to treat this draft Title V permit as a proposed Title V permit and to perform its 45-day review provided by the law and regulations concurrently with the public notice period. Although EPA’s 45-day review period will be performed concurrently with the public comment period, the deadline for submitting a citizen petition to object to the EPA Administrator will be determined as if EPA’s 45-day review period is performed after the public comment period has ended (i.e., sequentially).

Louisville Metro Government hosting aquatics center input meetings

Louisville Metro Government is seeking input for a feasibility study on the need for a new indoor aquatics center and will be hosting two public meetings to gather input during the month of December.

Free Leaf Drop-Off Extended

Louisville Metro leaf drop-off service, originally scheduled to end December 1, has been extended by three weeks.  Metro residents not mulching autumn leaves into their lawns or using curbside collection have the option to dispose of them at one of three drop-off sites through December 22.

Only loose leaves will be accepted. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be disposed of off-site by residents.

Subsidy LIHEAP Registration

The LIHEAP Program that helps low income residents of Jefferson County with their utility bills begins on Nov. 5, 2018.

LIHEAP, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, is a federally funded, income-based program that provides financial help to low-income households in meeting the costs of heating their home. The LIHEAP Subsidy Component is a one-time assistance benefit, which is paid directly to the heating vendor. The LIHEAP Subsidy Component begins Monday, Nov. 5 and will operate through Dec. 14, 2018, or until funding is depleted, whichever comes first.

Residents wishing to apply must schedule an appointment utilizing the automated appointment system. The appointment system is currently open and is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Appointments can be scheduled by phone by calling 502-991-8391 or online at louisvilleky.cascheduler.com.

Applicants must be Louisville Metro/Jefferson County residents with a household income at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. For the Subsidy Component of LIHEAP, residents can apply regardless of the status of their utility bills. Applicants must also provide the following documentation.

  • Proof of all household income for the preceding month (Food Stamp award letter, Social Security Award letter, pay stubs, etc. or proof of $0 income. Note: Zero Income forms are available at the Office of Resilience and Community Services office at 701 W. Ormsby Ave., Suite 201 or by clicking here.
  • Proof of Social Security number for each member of the household.
  • Most current heating bill; or statement from your landlord if heating expenses are included in your rent; or statement from your utility company if you participate in a pre-pay electric program. Please bring the account number and name on the account for main heating fuel sources and electric.

LIHEAP applications will be completed at the time of the appointment at one of the six locations listed below.

As of Jan. 7, 2019, paper tickets will no longer be used on a TARC bus. Customers can get a jump start in acquiring a smart card that will be required to ride the bus. Customers will be allowed to put a value on new smart cards and seniors will be able to get smart cards with a photo I.D. verifying age.

Catholic Enrichment Center Events

Enhanced After School Tutoring Program & Cultural Institute

Our students are coming home these days with more questions, fewer books and the achievement gap continues to increase. The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s Catholic Enrichment Center is offering homework assistance and basic academic review for students in grades K-12 to assist in bridging that gap. Students will be exposed to alternative learning exercises provided by experienced educators. Tutoring takes place on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The Cultural Institute is being offered again this year. Sewing takes place on Monday, Dance on Tuesday and Arts and Crafts on Thursday. The daily tutoring sessions are by appointment only and must be scheduled in advance. Men’s Bible Study

The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s Catholic Enrichment Center is hosting Men’s Bible Study sessions on Tuesdays from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. This is a weekly opportunity for men to study scripture and explore the power of God’s word while providing an opportunity for men to connect and bond with other men through this male ministry initiative. Citywide Kwanzaa Celebration

The Office of Multicultural Ministry will host the 37th Annual Citywide Kwanzaa Celebration on Saturday, December 29, 2018, 12:00 p.m. at Catholic Enrichment Center, 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211. This is a community-wide family event filled with music, prayer, African drumming, food, a celebration of history and much more. Kwanzaa, which means “first fruits of the harvest” in the African language Kiswahili, is a seven-day harvest festival celebrated December 26 – January 1. This is a celebration of family, community and culture. It is not a religious holiday. Kwanzaa was founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, Professor of Africana Studies at California State University-Long Beach. At the heart and center of Kwanzaa are the Nguzo Saba, The Seven Principles, one for each day of the observance. The principle and practice of the day for the 2013 celebration is Nia (NEE-ah) which means Purpose: To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. ACT/SAT Test Prep

The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s Catholic Enrichment Center will offer ACT/SAT Test Prep Sessions on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., October 20, 2018 – June 1, 2019. The center is located at 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211. The next dates are: January 9, 2019; April 6, 2019; and June 1, 2019. The classes are FREE!! These dates coincide with the national ACT/SAT test dates which are: February 9, 2019; April 13, 2019; June 8, 2019; and July 13, 2019. The test is not offered at the CEC. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry will host its 34th Annual Archdiocesan Community Wide Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Monday, January 21, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 South Fifth Street, Louisville, KY 40202. The theme is “From Maintenance to Mission” and Sr. Anita P. Baird, DHM will be the Guest Speaker. Join Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D., the Archdiocesan Gospel Choir, and many more during this celebration to honor a man who fought for all people. Thea Bowman Institute Certificate Program

The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s next Thea Bowman Institute class will take place on Saturday, February 9, 2019, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Catholic Enrichment Center, 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211. The session topic is Black Theology, presented by Dr. Diana Hayes. The cost of the session is $25.00 per person which includes materials and lunch. The Thea Bowman Program offers a certificate in African American Ministry Studies. African American Catholic Leadership Awards Dinner

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry will host its 32nd Annual African American Catholic Leadership Awards Dinner on Saturday, March 2, 2019, 6:00 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 830 Phillips Lane, Louisville, KY 40209. A Silent Auction and Cash Bar will begin at 5:00 p.m. The purpose of this awards dinner is to recognize African American Catholic leadership within the Archdiocese of Louisville. All proceeds from this event will go towards a scholarship fund that assists African American Catholic youth with secondary and post-secondary education. Youth scholarships will be given to young men and women who have demonstrated leadership in their church and school communities. Adults will be recognized for their leadership in the African American Catholic community. The list of the recipient’s is attached. Tickets are $70.00 and should be purchased in advance.
