Massing of the Colors/Blessing of the Flags takes place immediately after the parade, at the Review Stand on the front steps of Metro Hall, 527 West Jefferson Street.
Parade highlights include:
- 100th anniversary commemoration of Fort Knox and end of WWI
- 66 units and 20 Honor Guards
- All 5 branches of the Armed Services represented (Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard)
- 20+ restored military vehicles including jeeps, trucks and a tank
- 1000 schoolchildren again will form the Corridor of Flags along the parade route, and the parade will march through that corridor.

 In preparation for the Brightside Community-Wide Planting Day on Saturday, November 10th, Brightside is partnering with several local garden centers to host plant sales in support of our programs and initiatives.
Our partners this fall include St. Matthews Feed & Seed located at 225 Chenoweth Lane, and Ken-Mulch located at 2708 Outer Loop which are offering 10% of all sales from Friday, October 26th to Sunday, October 28th to serve as a fundraiser for Brightside.
In addition, The Plant Kingdom located at 4101 Westport Road has also joined the efforts and from Sunday, October 21st to Sunday, November 4th, 10% of all canopy tree sales will serve as a fundraiser for Brightside.

Come out for a FREE performanace of the Taming of the Shrew at the Bon Air Library on Tuesday Nov. 13th at 6:00pm. This performance is partially sponsored by Councilman Ackerson and he plans to attend.
The Louisville Metro Waste Reduction Center is currently CLOSED while repair work is done. The facility, which offers drop-off disposal of large waste items at 636 Meriwether Avenue, will reopen on Tuesday Nov.20th.
During the closure, the WRC will not be available for leaf drop-off service that will begin at two other locations on November 6, 2018. Leaf drop-off at the WRC will begin when the facility reopens on November 20 and continue at all three sites through December 1.
Metro Public Works is offering a free leaf drop-off service November 6 through December 1. Drop-off will not be available on November 22 and 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Only loose leaves will be accepted. Containers used to bring leaves to the drop-off sites must be disposed of off-site by residents.

 The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps low income residents of Jefferson County with their utility bills.
This is a federally funded, income-based program that provides financial help to low-income households in meeting the costs of heating their home. The LIHEAP Subsidy Component is a one-time assistance benefit, which is paid directly to the heating vendor. The LIHEAP Subsidy Component will operate through Dec. 14, 2018, or until funding is depleted, whichever comes first.
Residents wishing to apply must schedule an appointment utilizing the automated appointment system. The appointment system is currently open and is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Appointments can be scheduled by phone by calling 502-991-8391 or online at louisvilleky.cascheduler.com.
Applicants must be Louisville Metro/Jefferson County residents with a household income at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. For the Subsidy Component of LIHEAP, residents can apply regardless of the status of their utility bills.
Applicants must also provide the following documentation:
- Proof of all household income for the preceding month (Food Stamp award letter, Social Security Award letter, pay stubs, etc. or proof of $0 income.) Note: Zero Income forms are available at the Office of Resilience and Community Services office at 701 W. Ormsby Ave., Suite 201 or by clicking here.
- Proof of Social Security number for each member of the household.
- Most current heating bill; or statement from your landlord if heating expenses are included in your rent; or statement from your utility company if you participate in a pre-pay electric program. Please bring the account number and name on the account for main heating fuel sources and electric.
LIHEAP applications will be completed at the time of the appointment at one of the six locations listed below. The closest to our district is listed first.

We all know that illegal dumping--putting waste on property that is not licensed as a disposal facility--is an eyesore that is expensive to clean up, diminishes quality of life, discourages economic development and even sends plastic debris into our waterways.
That's why people caught dumping along our city's alleys, sidewalks, fields and roadsides are subject to fines and impoundment of any vehicle used in the dumping. That's where citizens can help with the problem. If you witness illegal dumping while it's happening, report it.
We've developed a new online form you can use to tell us where it happened, describe the vehicle(s) involved, preferably with license plate number(s), and even upload pictures. For residents of the urban services district, Louisville city street sweeping will resume in 2019.
Don't get caught by surprise and ticketed or towed when the sweepers come to your street. Sign up instead to get text or email alerts when the sweepers are coming. Just click on MyLouisville on the Louisvilleky.gov webpage, type in your address, and you're on your way. While you're there you can also find the date of your next junk collection and sign up to be reminded automatically.
