Brightside Community Wide Fall Cleanup - October 20th

Brightside

We have heard from many constituents that they are disappointed with the amount of littering in the area. This event is an amazing opportunity to put on some gloves and take pride in our community.

The 2018 Brightside & Passport Health Plan Fall Community Wide Cleanup is on Saturday, October 20th! Last year's fall Community Wide Cleanup saw over 8,500 volunteers clean up our city and this year, we want to shatter that number!

We encourage all residents to take part in the Community-Wide Cleanup. The event is a great service opportunity for boy/girl scouts, sports teams, faith groups and community organizations. It could also be a corporate team bonding opportunity!

Cleanups are an integral part of Brightside's mission and without the help of volunteer groups, and many other volunteers throughout the year, Brightside could not achieve their goals of a cleaner, greener Louisville.

To register, please call (502) 574-2613 or register online at https://louisvilleky.gov/government/brightside/brightside-passport-health-plan-community-wide-cleanup about two weeks prior to your event to schedule your cleanup and for information about getting supplies.

Thanks to each and every volunteer who supports the Brightside & Passport Health Plan Community-Wide Cleanup. We look forward to seeing you on October 20th. Thank you for your dedication – we can’t do it without you!

    The New Dixie Highway Update

    The New Dixie

Construction work to begin at two bus stops on New Dixie Highway project

Despite recent heavy rains, construction is progressing on The New Dixie Highway Project and soon work will begin at two existing bus stations in the southern part of the project corridor. Contract crews will be modifying concrete bus pads and installing connections in preparation for the new bus rapid transit line from TARC.  The actual bus shelters will not be installed until sometime next year.

Work is scheduled to begin the week of Oct. 8 at the northbound TARC bus stop on US 31W (Dixie Highway) at Dixie Garden Drive (mile marker 7.9). Currently no lane closures are needed but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists to be aware of shoulder closures and construction equipment entering and existing the roadway. In addition, sections of the sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians during this phase of construction.

Crews plan to start the same work at the northbound TARC bus stop on Dixie Highway at Citation Road (mile marker 9.1) the week of Oct. 15. Again, no lane closures are planned, but the shoulder and sidewalk in this area will be closed.

Construction at these two bus stops will occur simultaneously.

The New Dixie Highway Project is designed to improve safety and traffic efficiency along one of the city’s busiest corridors. In addition to the bus rapid transit line, the project includes new fiber-linked traffic signals, new concrete and landscaped medians, and new asphalt pavement.

Construction on Dixie Highway began in early January with crews mainly working in two different locations between Greenwood Road and Blanton Lane and between Heaton Road and Upper Hunters Trace. They have been installing new drainage structures, replacing curb and gutters, constructing new sidewalks and upgrading traffic signals.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.  More information is available through the project website (www.TheNewDixieHighway.com) and social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Road Alerts & Updates

Below is a list of projects overseen by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet happening in Southwest Louisville.

US 31W (Dixie Highway) North: Lane closures and delays possible at Algonquin Parkway (mile marker 17.7) due to installation of a micro-trench for conduit and fiber optic cables. Right lane will be closed daily from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.   This process will take several weeks to complete as crews progress north to West Broadway.

US 31W (Dixie Highway): Lane closures and sidewalk closures in place between Greenwood Road and Heaton Road (mile markers 11.7 to 14.5) due to construction for access management and bus rapid transit lines. Roadway is reduced to two lanes on southbound Dixie Highway between Blanton Lane and Greenwood Road and on northbound Dixie Highway between Upper Hunters Trace and Heaton Road.
