In accordance with the procedures of Louisville Metro Planning and Design Services, we have been directed to invite you to discuss the proposal before an application can be filed. The Sickle Cell Association of Kentuckiana (SCAK) will host its 8th Annual Sickle Cell Anemia Gala on September 22, 2018, at the Galt House Waterford Room, 25th Floor, the Rivue Tower. This black-tie event will feature Bennie Smith III on Saxophone, accompanied by Alysha Ashley on vocals. There will be a plated dinner, DJ, dancing, and a silent auction. Sept. 6, Basic Diabetes Self-Management Class at Ujima Neighborhood Place, 1 – 2:30 p.m.

Zumba® Fitness is an aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance and performed primarily to Latin American dance music. The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s Catholic Enrichment Center located at 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211 is offering 2 B.A.D. Zumba® with Jess! on Tuesday & Thursday at 6:00 p.m. with licensed Zumba® Fitness Instructor Jessica of 2 B.A.D. Fitness. Cost: 1st class is free; $3.00 per class after that; punch cards will be available for 10 classes for $25.00. Please wear comfortable, light exercise clothing and shoes that offer stability and cushion. Bring a water bottle for rehydration. Our Lady of Cobre Celebration

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry will celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy of Cobre on Sunday, September 9, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 8709 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY 40219. Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, D.D. will celebrate the feast day with a Holy Mass. Our Lady of Cobre, also known as Our Lady of Charity is the patroness of Cuba. Our Lady of Cobre was declared the patroness of Cuba by Pope Benedict XV in 1916 and solemnly crowned in the Eucharistic Congress held in Santiago de Cuba in 1936. CEC Open House

Have you ever wondered what goes on in that building located at 3146 West Broadway? Has anyone ever asked you where they might be able to find tutoring programs, exercise classes, or a Dare to Care Food Pantry in the community? Well wonder no more!! The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s Catholic Enrichment Center will host an Open House on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. to answer these questions and more. If you are interested in hearing all about what gives life to the CEC, join us for a showcase of the various programs and activities that are offered to the community throughout the year. Introduction & Intermediate Computer Classes

The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s Catholic Enrichment Center will offer introduction and intermediate computer classes for the general public. Learn computer skills at your own speed, whether you need assistance with email (electronic mail), the Internet, basic typing, or Microsoft Word. “Introduction to Computers (Keyboarding)” will take place on Monday afternoons (September 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15, & 22, 2018) from 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and “Intermediate Computer Techniques (Intro to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Publisher)” will take place on Tuesday afternoons (September 18, 25, October 2, 9, 16, & 23, 2018) from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. All are welcome! Level I Spanish Classes

The Office of Multicultural Ministry will offer Basic Level I Spanish Classes for persons wishing to communicate and become more involved with the Hispanic community in their parishes. There will be ten classes in total designed to prepare students to engage in basic conversational Spanish. The classes will take on Mondays, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. starting on October 8, 2018 through December 10, 2018 at the Maloney Center, 1200 South Shelby Street, Louisville, KY 40203. The class dates are: 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 11/26, 12/3, and 12/10/2018. A minimum of five students are necessary for the course to take place. Enhanced After School Tutoring Program & Cultural Institute

Our students are coming home these days with more questions, fewer books and the achievement gap continues to increase. The Office of Multicultural Ministry’s Catholic Enrichment Center is offering homework assistance and basic academic review for students in grades K-12 to assist in bridging that gap. The Enhanced After School Tutoring Program will start on Monday, September 24, 2018. Students will be exposed to alternative learning exercises provided by experienced educators. The Cultural Institute will be offered again this year. The daily tutoring sessions are by appointment only and must be scheduled in advance. The program cost is $20 per month per child. 33rd Annual African American Catholic Day of Reflection

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry and its African American Catholic Ministry will host its 33rd Annual African American Catholic Day of Reflection on Saturday, September 29, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Catholic Enrichment Center, 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211. The theme is “Intentional Missionary Discipleship”. Some of the workshop presenters include Rev. Maurice Emelu – Keynote Speaker, Dr. Veronica Morgan-Lee, Deacon Royce Winters, Ms. Pam Harris, Deacon James Turner, Mr. Tristan Evans, Mrs. M. Annette Mandley-Turner, Mr. Mario Dance, Ms. Charmein Weathers, and more. This event is an implementation of the National Black Catholic Pastoral Plan and the archdiocesan Strategic Plan. Registration for adults is $30.00 and for youth (grades 1-12) is $15.00. Lunch is included. After September 19, 2018, adult registration will be $40.00 and youth $20.00. Each parish is invited to send at least 40 participants including a youth delegation, young adult delegation, pastor/deacon, parish leadership team members, and anyone else excited to celebrate the gifts of the African American Catholic community. 5th Hispanic Encuentro

The Archdiocese of Louisville’s Office of Multicultural Ministry and its Hispanic Ministry will host its 5th Hispanic Encuentro on Saturday, October 6, 2018, 8:15 a.m. at St. John Paul II Catholic Church…Goldsmith Lane Campus (formerly St. Pius X Catholic Church), 3521 Goldsmith Lane, Louisville, KY. The theme is “Missionary Disciples”. Mass with Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, D. D. as the presider, confession, workshops, lunch, and prayer are included. The cost is $25 for young adults and adults; $10.00 for high school and middle school youth; and $5.00 for children pre-K to 5th grade. Teens in middle and high school will need to bring their cell phone. The day will start with the celebration of Mass. Join us for a fun and healthy experience that will include free health screenings, healthy living tips, safety information, and much more.
