2018 reGeneration Fair – September 15

reGeneration Fair

Water Botanical Gardens (WBG) is hosting its annual reGeneration Fair on Saturday, September 15, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. This free, family-friendly and environmental fair will be located on the Butchertown Greenway behind the WBG site. Parking is available at Eva Bandman and Karen Lynch Parks.

Enjoy environmental displays and demos, arts and crafts, food, drinks, and music on the Butchertown Greenway along the eastern edge of the WBG property.

Louisville Visual Art will also be having their annual "Plein air Paint Out." Visit louisvillevisualart.org for more info!

Activities include: free canoe tours with River City Paddle Sports, rainwater garden with Dropseed Nursery, fossil activity with Falls of the Ohio State Park, large insects with Idlewild Butterfly Farm, beekeeping with Cole Gilbert, Live raptors with RROKI, t-shirt printing with Steam Exchange, Sachin rhythms with Carletta Delonjay, all about tree planting with Trees Louisville, Salt River Watershed Watch, gardening for birds with the Audubon Society, tree climbing demo with Limbwalker, Stilt Walking with Sky’s the Limit Stiltwalking, and juicing from plants with The Weekly Juicery.

Sustainability Story: Up Up! Farm Film Festival – Sept 15

Up! Up! Farm Film Festival

Louisville Grows' First Annual Fundraiser will bring a series of feature length, independently produced films and shorts together for their first Up Up! Farm Film Festival on Saturday, September 15, from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Clifton Campus, 2117 Payne Street. Each film will explore questions of farmland access, rural livelihoods and the sustainability of people and place. 

Pre-screening and intermission activities will feature booths by exhibiting partners. Each ticket purchased will be eligible for door prizes from local businesses during intermission. Refreshments will be available for purchase including Apocalypse Brew Works, Heine Brothers' Coffee and Tina's Fluff and Pop. Proceeds will benefit Louisville Grows’ tree plantings, community garden grants and Healthy House programs.

Butchertown Roots: A Celebration of Roots, Jazz and World Music – September 15 & 16

Butchertown Roots

A spin-off of the Clifton Roots, Jazz, and Heritage Festival held at the Clifton Center last year, Butchertown Roots continues the quest to bring the best in roots, jazz, and world music to Louisville audiences. Featuring five Grammy nominees, a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Award recipient, and a MacArthur Foundation genius grant award winner, Butchertown Roots welcomes internationally renowned performers, as well as several of Louisville’s most celebrated local artists. Both concerts will be held at Louisville’s most exciting new venue, Odeon, located at 1335 Story Avenue in Louisville’s Butchertown neighborhood.

The Big Table – September 16

The Big Table hosts the world’s largest potluck event on Sunday, September 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Iroquois Park. Sit down to dinner with 3,500 friends. Thanks for coming out to another Back to School Block Party! Despite the weather forecast, the rain held off for the entire event! We had a great turnout with 340 kids and families. We were able to provide 77 door prizes to the youth in attendance. Click here to view photos from the event.

Bourbon & Beyond – Champions Park

Bourbon and Beyond

The Bourbon & Beyond music festival will be in Champions Park the weekend of September 22-23, 2018. More information on the festival is located online at https://bourbonandbeyond.com/.

Community General Information:

  • Concert setup is underway and will continue until after the Louder Than Life concert September 28-30. There is significant construction activity as part of the setup. 
  • All park users should use the Zorn Avenue entrance to lessen cross-traffic challenges with event trucks.
  • Champions Dog Park will remain open and accessible on all non-show days during normal park hours.
  • While many areas of the park will be inaccessible, some park paths will remain open to the public on non-show days. It is very important that all dogs be on leash throughout the park at all times. (That’s the law in all parks, all the time, by the way). 

The following streets will be closed during the following times:

Monday, September 17 from 10:00 a.m. until Tuesday, September 25 at 5:00 p.m.

  • Edith Road from River Road to Mellwood Avenue (will be open to pedestrians)

The following streets will have no parking during the following times:

51.405 COLLECTION IN URBAN SERVICES DISTRICT

(A)   For the collection of household solid waste.

(1)   The Department will collect household solid waste set out for collection from residential buildings having eight or fewer units.  All household garbage must be set out in the cart provided by the Department.  No plastic bags containing household waste are allowed to be set outside of the carts… 

(2)   All household garbage must be set out by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day set by the Department and may be set out no earlier than 4:00 p.m. on the day before collection.

(3)   All carts must be removed from the street or alley no later than 4:00 p.m. the day after collection.

The deadline for registering to vote in Kentucky before the 2018 General Election is rapidly approaching and it’s easier than ever to do so.

Tuesday, October 9 is the last day to register to vote in the November 6 election. Kentuckians can now register to vote, and check and update their registrations online, at this website.  

Voters who will be outside Jefferson County on Election Day are among those who can vote absentee.  More information about voting absentee, both by mail and in-house, is here.

If you qualify to vote by absentee ballot, you can do that at the Jefferson County Clerk’s Election Center, which has moved to 701 West Ormsby Avenue, Suite 301, beginning September 24.   Here’s the schedule:

  • September 24 – November 5, 2018          8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Saturdays

  • October 20, 2018               9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Friday, September 14: Help Waterfront Botanical Gardens (WBG) get ready for the reGeneration Fair by volunteering along the Butchertown Greenway from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.. Volunteers will be picking up trash, trimming bushes, and making the creek area look nice. WBG will bring some tools, but feel free to bring whatever you may have. Dress for outdoor work, wear sunscreen and bring water. Parking suggested at Karen Lynch Park at Brownsboro Road and Story Avenue.

Friday, September 14: 5th Annual Smoketown GetDown for Democracy from 4:00 - 10:00 p.m. at 760 S. Hancock Street. This is a free block party powered by the people and open to the public with live entertainment and local food & beer. Friday, September 14 - Sunday, September 16Hundreds of bikes will roll into Louisville for the 6th Annual Kentucky Kick Down vintage motorcycle festival at Turners Louisville, 3125 River Road. In addition to the bike show, the event will feature local bands, swimming, bowling, retailers, vendors and food trucks. Admission is $5 per day, and parking is $10 per day. Kids 12 and under are free. Discounted weekend pricing is also available. On-site camping fees range from $65 for the baseball field to $100 for riverside.
