CycLOUvia Sunday on Goss and Logan

Many District 10 residents and those from around the city met to enjoy CycLOUvia on Goss and Logan on Sunday afternoon. Below, Chip Rogalinski, president of the Shelby Park Neighborhood Association, took part in a butterfly release with a group of bicyclists. The butterfies were provided by Idlewild Butterfly Farm, 1100 Logan Street.

CycLOUvia is an opportunity to experience Louisville by walking, cycling, skateboarding, or dancing in the street.

Streets account for a massive amount of public land in all cities. CycLOUvia repurposes these public spaces by temporarily replacing traditional vehicular traffic with pedestrian traffic. Streets become paved parks where people of all ages, abilities, and socio-economic backgrounds can come to improve their mental, physical, and emotional health.

New Addax at Zoo photo

The Louisville Zoo welcomed a male Saharan addax calf early Sunday morning. The little guy, yet to be named, is pictured above with his mother, Patella.

He is the 59th addax calf born at the Louisville Zoo, which has been home to Saharan addax since its opening in 1969.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature cites the Saharan addax as critically endangered. In 2016, field researchers estimated that less than 100 individuals remain in the remnant wild.

This addax birth was planned and is a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan.

A name will be announced in the coming weeks.
