Councilman Blackwell will host the next monthly District 12 Dialogue on Tuesday, August 21st.

He hosts the quarterly District 12 Dialogue forums as a way to make Metro Government more convenient and accessible for the constituents of District 12.

Councilman Blackwell will provide an update on Southwest projects. Representatives from LMPD, MSD, Code Enforcement, and a member of the New Dixie project will be in attendance to address specific concerns.

Chief Doug Recktenwald will also be on the agenda to discuss a potential ambulance service provided by PRP Fire.

Center for Neighborhoods is now accepting applications for Neighborhood Institute Fall 2018!

The Neighborhood Institute is a neighborhood leadership-education program established in 1987 by the Center For Neighborhoods, a non-profit civic organization. The Neighborhood Institute equips neighborhood leaders with the resources necessary to effect positive change by acting through and with their neighborhood groups.

Part of the Neighborhood Institute curriculum includes a self-directed project in the community. Through the class projects, people become engaged in the community as they branch out and apply the information and knowledge from the class to real life situations.

It’s that time of year again! The 18th annual RBA Light-up Riverport Golf Scramble will be held at the Iroquois Golf Course, on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Proceeds from the Light-up Riverport Golf Scramble will be used to pay the annual costs of Riverport street lighting. This annual event helps keep their employees safe and their facilities secure! Breakfast will be served beginning at 6:30am followed by a shotgun start at 7:00am. When the last team returns from play we’ll enjoy lunch and a presentation of trophies and door prizes. 

Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place; and the “Most Teams” entered by one company! Additionally, prizes will be awarded for: Longest Drive and Closest to the Hole. Will you soon be replacing your roof? The Louisville Metro Office of Sustainability has funds available in its Cool Roof Rebate Program available for residents or commercial property owners in Metro Council Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 14 and 15. 

The program offers up to $2,000 for residents and up to $5,000 or $10,000 (depending on the slope of the roof) for commercial property owners to replace their roofs with cool roofs. Cool roofs are made with reflective materials and lighter colored roofs that reflect sunlight and heat away from a building, reducing roof temperatures and utilities costs. These cool roofs, on both residential and commercial buildings, absorb less heat and stay up to 50–60°F cooler than conventional materials during peak summer weather. Philly, FEMALE DOG

Philly just wants someone to play with – and lots of treats! The approximately 11-month-old Jack Russell terrier is very friendly and likes to be around other dogs. Philly would be a good candidate for a home with a fur sibling. You can bring your dog to Animal House Adoption Center for a meet and greet with Philly, as long as your pet has had both Canine Influenza vaccinations. These adorable kittens are waiting to be adopted from Animal House! Marv, Deluka and Delilah are just 2 months old. This sweet trio was found without their mother and have been nursed back to health during their stay at the shelter. Lane closure on Rockford Lane as part of New Dixie Highway project 

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 5 Office advises motorists of a lane closure beginning today on Rockford Lane at the T-intersection with US 31W (Dixie Highway) in Jefferson County. Contract crews will be widening Rockford Lane as part of The New Dixie Highway Project.

The right lane of the eastbound Rockford Lane will be closed today, Monday, August 6 and will remain closed for approximately two weeks. This lane had allowed traffic to turn left or right onto Dixie Highway or to go straight across into the Rite Aid parking lot. Motorists must now use the left lane of eastbound Rockford Lane to make these movements (see map below).

Once the entire New Dixie Highway Project is complete at the end of 2019, Rockford Lane will have four lanes at the intersection with Dixie Highway, one westbound lane and three eastbound lanes. There will be two dedicated left turn lanes from eastbound Rockford Lane to northbound Dixie Highway and one lane to either turn right onto southbound Dixie Highway or proceed straight to Rite Aid.

The New Dixie Highway Project is designed to improve safety and traffic efficiency along one of the city’s busiest corridors, and will include new fiber-linked traffic signals, new concrete and landscaped medians, and a bus rapid transit line from TARC.

Construction on Dixie Highway began in early January with crews working in two different locations - between Greenwood Road and Blanton Lane and between Heaton Road and Upper Hunters Trace. Crews have been installing new drainage structures, replacing curb and gutters, constructing new sidewalks and upgrading traffic signals.

Below is a list of projects overseen by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet happening in Southwest Louisville.

US 31W (Dixie Highway): Lane closures and sidewalk closures in place between Greenwood Road and Heaton Road (mile markers 11.7 to 14.5) due to construction for access management and bus rapid transit lines. Roadway is reduced to two lanes on southbound Dixie Highway in two locations between Heaton Road and Upper Hunters Trace and between Blanton Lane and Greenwood Road.

US 31W (Dixie Highway) North: Lane closures and delays possible at Nobel Place (mile marker 15.7) due to installation of a micro-trench for conduit and fiber optic cables. Right lane will be closed daily from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 6 at Nobel Place. This process will take several weeks to complete as crews progress north to West Broadway.
