Encourage a Child to Have a Great School Year!
JCPS
celebrates their first day of school on Wednesday, August 15th. Please be
mindful when driving that our children are waiting for buses on corners and
on streets, and that school buses are learning new routes and making frequent
stops.

Overcoming Anxiety
It is not uncommon to feel anxious and apprehensive because of the threats of violence. These nervous feelings will come and go. However, if you are in a constant state of feeling anxious, it can quickly become overwhelming and may get in the way of your daily life. Below are some tips to assist you in overcoming anxious feelings:
• Limit your television news viewing. Keep informed, but don’t watch it around the clock.
• Volunteer. Doing something nice for someone else can improve your frame of mind.
• Limit caffeine. Too much caffeine can make you edgy and anxious.
• Avoid nicotine and alcohol. They both contain chemicals that can cause anxiety.
• Talk to someone. If you start to feel overwhelmed, talk with a friend, family member, doctor, religious advisor or mental health professional.

“Read
With” Me Project
“Youth In Action Network” is comprised
of youth in first grade through high school. The
organization connects youth around the city of Louisville and engages them
in positive activities that include educational projects and community
service projects.
“
Read With Me” project was implemented to cultivate an academic attitude
about learning and helping students to enhance their reading skills. The youth
collected over 2,000 books which will be distributed throughout Jefferson
County to students Pre-K through high school. Books were donated by
students, Bon Air Library, and various other organizations.
Finances and You begins August 29th
"Finances and You" is a six-series workshop that will
give participants a wealth of knowledge from Louisville Metro Government
presenters and a number of guest speakers with experience in financial
education and representatives from financial institutions.

Passport Health Care Community Engagement
Passport members are invited to join with representatives from
Passport Health Care for one-on-one consultations to discuss plan benefits and
options. This is a great opportunity as Passport aims to raise awareness
and educate the community about the Passport Health Plan mission. Passport
members will receive a $10 retail gift card for attending.

A Healthy Journey for Two Educational Baby Shower
For more information, contact Mendy Mason at 341-5400. A
Healthy Journey for Two is an educational baby shower open to any expectant
mothers. The class will include a range of information and resources, as
well as free baby items, gift cards, prizes, and snacks. Hosted by Seven
Counties and KIDSNow Fathers are welcome but must be registered.

Self-Management Class
Located at 1503 Rangeland Road at T.J. Middle School.
Registration is required by calling 574-6663. Whether you are recently
diagnosed or have had diabetes for years and need a refresher, this session is
for you. Topics include what diabetes is and is not, glucose monitoring,
problem solving, healthy eating, medication management, sick day management,
healthy exercise, goal setting, and more. Sponsored by Louisville Metro
Public Health and Wellness.
