Cool Roof Rebate Program

Cool Roof Rebate

Will you soon be replacing your roof? The Louisville Metro Office of Sustainability has funds available in its Cool Roof Rebate Program available for residents or commercial property owners in Metro Council Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 12, 14 and 15.

The program offers up to $2,000 for residents and up to $5,000 or $10,000 (depending on the slope of the roof) for commercial property owners to replace their roofs with cool roofs. Cool roofs are made with reflective materials and lighter colored roofs that reflect sunlight and heat away from a building, reducing roof temperatures and utilities costs. These cool roofs, on both residential and commercial buildings, absorb less heat and stay up to 50–60°F cooler than conventional materials during peak summer weather. Stay cool and save money today with a cool roof with help from our rebate program! For more information and to find the program application, please visit https://louisvilleky.gov/government/sustainability/incentives#1 or call the Office of Sustainability at 502-574-1976.

Metro Animal Services' Pets of the Week: Chico and Cargo!

Chico

Chico, MALE DOG

Little Chico is an approximately 3-year-old Chihuahua who’s shy but friendly. He prefers to be carried rather than use his legs so we know someone spoiled this guy. Chico came to the shelter after a kind woman found him in her yard, but wasn’t able to locate his owner. Chico can be fearful at times  and needs a laidback, calm home with a family that will give him time to adjust  to his surroundings. Chico appears to be housetrained. His adoption fee is waived for an approved applicant, thanks to the Pay It Forward program. To meet or adopt Chico, visit Animal House Adoption Center located at 3516 Newburg Rd. Tuesday-Sunday 12-6pm. Questions? Email animalservicesadoption@louisvilleky.gov, or call 473-PETS.

Cargo

Cargo, MALE CAT

2-year-old Cargo enjoys being a ladies man, and the only male cat in a room with 3 feline sisters. Cargo enjoys lounging in small, dark spaces but he enjoys attention too! He’s lived with other cats before and is friendly once he’s given time to warm up to new people. Cargo’s adoption fee is waived thanks to the Pay It Forward Program. If you’re interested in adopting Cargo,  visit Animal House Adoption Center Tuesday-Sunday 12-6pm. Email questions to animalservicesadoption@louisvilleky.gov.

The New Dixie Highway Update

The New Dixie

 New Dixie Highway Work
Reaches Key Milestone

The New Dixie Highway Project is moving into a milestone phase in which the construction zones will begin to shift locations.

When the project launched in December, workers were largely working on the northbound side of Dixie Highway between Greenwood Road and Blanton Lane – and the southbound side from Heaton Road to Upper Hunters Trace.

Crews in both of these sections were installing new drainage structures, replacing curb and gutters and constructing new sidewalks. Three milestones have occurred or will be occurring this summer.

  • In June, the first phase of work between Greenwood Road and Blanton Lane was completed and workers moved to the southbound side of the road.
  • Meanwhile, the work on southbound lanes between Heaton and Upper Hunters Trace was extended about 300 feet past Upper Hunters Trace. This created the need for a temporary closure of a dedicated right turn lane from Upper Hunters Trace to Dixie Highway.
  • Soon, the work between Heaton and Upper Hunters Trace will move to the northbound side of the road.

“Whenever there is a change in which lanes are open or closed, drivers are going to be affected,” said John Callihan, Louisville Metro’s Director of Transportation. “We just ask that drivers be patient and bring their full attention to the roadway so that our crews can work safely as they try to make the closures as short as possible.”

The New Dixie Highway Project is designed to improve safety and traffic efficiency along one of the city’s busiest corridors, and will include new fiber-linked traffic signals, new concrete and landscaped medians, and a bus rapid transit line from TARC.

    Keeping the Public Informed

From the beginning, The New Dixie Highway Project has solicited public input and worked hard to ensure that the people who use Dixie Highway the most know about the work being done.

To continue our efforts to ensure that everyone using Dixie Highway understands the project, we’ve now added Instagram - @NewDixieHwy – to our social media channels. Follow us on Instagram to get updates on the work being done to make Dixie Highway safer and more efficient for everyone.

You can also continue to get information at the project website (www.TheNewDixieHighway.com) and Facebook and Twitter.
