June 21, Free Off-Season Tax Help with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) at First Neighborhood Place, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  

Located at 1503 Rangeland Rd., side of Thomas Jefferson Middle School.  Call 574-5687 to make an appointment and to inquire about required IRS documentation needed.  Although the 2017 tax filing season has ended, there is still free help available in preparing past due and amended tax returns. It is also still possible to receive a refund for returns from the years 2015 to 2017 for those who qualify.  Taxpayers earning $64,000 can make an appointment with a VITA team member. Summer/early fall VITA tax preparation sites are located at the following:

  • The Edison Center, 701 W Ormsby, Suite 201, 40203 -  Tuesdays, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Louisville Urban League 1535 W Broadway, 40203 - Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. 

July 5, American Red Cross Blood Drive at Charmoli Center Neighborhood Place, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. 
Located at 200 Juneau Drive, Suite 200, conference room.  Call 574-8147 for more information. Giving blood is a simple thing to do, but it can make a big difference in the lives of others. It is best to reach out in advance to preregister in advance, however, walk-ins the day of will be accepted.


Summer Breakfast and Lunch Meals Available

Summer meals are good for students' bodies, and healthier students are great for everybody. Kids get nutritious meals at no charge at any of the JCPS Summer Meal sites. You just have to be 18 years of age or younger and eat the meal at the site. (Adults are not served.)

JCPS participates in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Summer Food Service Program. Meals are provided to all children at no charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability; there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Public Meeting for Impound Lot planned-Tonight!

Louisville Metro Government is planning a public meeting from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at Butchertown Pizza Hall (1301 Story Avenue, second floor) to share community input and next steps in its effort to relocate the Louisville Metro Police vehicle impound lot. In an effort to ensure a transparent process, the city is posting online the comments received in the community engagement process, which included tours and three public meetings, and information about the RFI responses.

Camp Africa Summer Program

2018 Camp Africa Summer Academic & Cultural Enrichment Program June 4 – July 20, 2018, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Catholic Enrichment Center is located at 3146 West Broadway, Louisville, KY 40211. This seven-week program is for youth grades one through eight. It will offer cultural and academic enrichment opportunities in the areas of math, reading, writing skills, science, and more, along with a cultural arts experience from an africentric perspective. The cost of the camp is $350.00 per child for the seven-week experience. There is a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee per child upon filling out an application. The $300 balance may be paid in two installments: at least $150.00 is due by the first day of camp on June 4, 2018 with any remaining balance due by June 25, 2018. A payment scale is available for families with multiple children in the household. Breakfast, lunch, and a snack are included along with great field trips and other enriching experiences. Zumba® Fitness Class

 Zumba® Fitness is an aerobic fitness program featuring movements inspired by various styles of Latin American dance and performed primarily to Latin American dance music.

Licensed Zumba® Fitness Instructor: Jessica of 2 B.A.D. Fitness

Cost: 1st class is free; $3.00 per class after that Punch cards will be available for 10 classes for $25.00

Attire: Wear comfortable, light exercise clothing; wear shoes that offer stability and cushion; bring a water bottle for rehydration
