asdfasdffafd

A fun – and free – family event will take place on the banks of the Ohio River in southwest Louisville on Saturday, June 16 as Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing hosts “Family Farm and Forage Day” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will explore historic and present-day farming with a variety of children’s activities, workshops, talks and booths.

Families can enjoy a milking demonstration featuring “Bluegrass Bessie” the cow; a farm animal petting zoo; horse-drawn wagon tours, barrel train rides as well as demonstrations on beekeeping, raising chickens, growing fruit trees, forage crops and more.

Another highlight of the festival is the Jefferson County 4-H Fair Open Youth Dairy Goat Show. The goats will be judged on adherence to breed standards and their youth handlers will be judged on showmanship. Late entries will be accepted the day of the show. The entrance fee is $5 per goat and champions will be awarded a small premium. For questions, contact Kelly Smith at the Extension office at 502/569-2344. All events and demonstrations are free, although a suggested donation of $5 can be made prior to tours of the Farnsley-Moremen house. Ehrler’s Ice Cream and Shack-In-The-Back BBQ will be providing concessions at Family Farm and Forage Day.

This event is held in partnership with the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service and the University of Kentucky’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. Other sponsors include Louisville Gas & Electric, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, the Future Farmers of America, the Louisville Water Co. and 4-H.

KYTC Dixie Paving

Update from May 29th, 2018

US 31W (Dixie Highway): Lane closures and delays possible between Stonestreet Road and Greenwood Road (mile markers 9.7 to 11.7) due to pavement marking installation, sidewalk ramp repairs and traffic signal upgrades. Lane closures are possible weeknights in the northbound lanes from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. and in the southbound lanes from 9:00 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. Additional lane closures are possible from 9:00 p.m. on Friday until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Update from May 15th, 2018

US 31W (Dixie Highway): The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has deemed the Dixie Paving project complete, however they are providing time for their inspectors to identify areas in need of correction, add Thermoplastic markings for stop bars and turning arrows at intersections, finish traffic signal upgrades as well as ADA federally required sidewalk work, stated to not have been included in the original contract with Hall Contracting.

Once this work is deemed "complete" by the project manager, Heath Phillips, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will work through a punch list that will be given to the contractor and they will have 90 days to complete all corrective work.

Councilman Yates recently spoke with WAVE 3 regarding his concern and hope that Hall did not "rush" to have the paving completed by May 15th to avoid the $25,000 per day fine at the expense of the quality of the finished product.

If you have concerns or have specific locations that need to be repaired or finished please contact the KY Transportation Cabinet's Project Manager, Heath Phillips at Heath.Phillips@ky.gov or Sherri Smith (502) 955-5436.

TreesLouisville Tree Rebate Program!

asfasdasfdfs
asfasdfasdfsdf

TreesLouisville is currently hosting a tree rebate. Those who purchase a shade tree can receive up to 40% off the purchase price. This is an initiative between TreesLouisville and Louisville Metro Division of Community Forestry to grow our tree canopy. Trees are more beneficial than you realize. For example, a yard tree can boost property value up to $10,000. They can also help lower heating & cooling bills. Louisville is the fastest warming urban heat island in the country; trees and shade help keep our city cool, improve air quality, and make for beautiful, safer neighborhoods.

In order to spread the word about the treebate, we would appreciate it if you could mention it in your newsletter.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Tree must be considered a shade tree
  • Tree must be planted in a residential yard
  • Program open to Jefferson County, KY residents only
  • Max 3 submissions per household
  • Tree must measure at least 1in in diameter at a point 6in above soil line
  • Rebates are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis while funds are available
  • Rebate is only eligible for purchase price of tree (i.e. excludes tax, planting or delivery fees, etc.)

Here are a couple graphics to go along with the information.  We thank you for your time and would be grateful for your help.

Nearly 200,000 passes have been issued since its inception in 2014.

The Vision of the Cultural Pass:

A Cultural Pass for children of all ages that supports and encourages life-long learning by providing access to Louisville’s art and cultural institutions.

Key Objectives:

1.     Impact summer learning loss by creating a learning experience through programming, activities, and education.

2.     Establish a life-long relationship between Louisville’s children and the art and cultural institutions.

3.     Work to address barriers that may prohibit children from accessing the city’s art and cultural venues.

The 2018 Cultural Pass is daily managed by the Fund for the Arts.

The 2018 Cultural Pass is available starting June 1, 2018 and may be picked up at any Louisville Free Public Library branch along with the Summer Reading Program.  Pass holders can register and track the progress of your Cultural Pass online at www.lfpl.org/culturalpass.

The official Cultural Pass Launch Day will be on June 9 at the Main Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library and all participating venues will be invited to participate.  Pass holders are encouraged to visit as many venues as you are able.  Pass holders that visit the most venues will be entered into a drawing for tickets, season passes and other prizes provided by members of the Arts and Culture Alliance.

BBB June 2018 Hot Topics

sadfsadasffds

Take a look at BBB’s hot topics for June 2018!

  1. If you receive a call saying you missed jury duty, hang up! Local consumers are receiving calls saying they are going to be arrested for missing jury duty. These scammers claim to be with the sheriff’s office and demand money over the phone to avoid arrest.
  2. Are you selling a car on Craigslist? Be wary of buyers asking to run a vehicle report through a specific website that they provide. These sites may not only charge a fee (to the seller) but also ask for personal information which may open you up to identity theft.
  3. Watch out for rental scams! Renters are finding great deals on properties, only to find out the “owner” is out of town and wants a security deposit wired upfront. The renter later finds out the property is not available and is out the money.
  4. Don’t fall for the free government grant scam. Consumers are being told they qualify for these “free” grants because they pay their bills on time or have never been arrested. All you have to do is give an upfront payment for taxes and fees and you receive thousands in return.
  5. Did you get a text message from an unknown number with a link? If you click on it, you may be downloading malware or spyware onto your mobile device. Many providers offer spam text reporting, so contact your carrier for more information.
  6. Beware of card skimmers/shimmers in checkout lanes at the store or gas stations. Scammers are installing these units to collect data from your debit or credit cards. Whether you swipe or use the chip, watch for anything that looks suspicious or out of place.
  7. If you get an offer for a free cruise, stay away! Several local consumers have received robocalls offering a free cruise in exchange for personal information or small upfront fees. Remember, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is!
  8. Beware of fake emails from UPS and FedEx saying your package was not delivered. These emails provide a link to a phishing site which asks for your personal information. Don’t fall for it!
  9. Don’t fall for phony debt collection calls. Consumers are being told they have outstanding debts, and scammers are demanding payment over the phone to avoid arrest or legal action. Don’t fall for these threatening tactics – ask the company to send you something in the mail.
  10. Have you gotten a call or email from Microsoft Tech Support? These scammers want remote access to “fix” your computer, charge a fee, and may even download spyware on your PC. Don’t fall for it.
