A variety of entertainment options for children, including live nature demonstrations and a climbing wall, will take place during the day, beginning at noon and ending at 5 p.m. Workshops by performers will begin at 1 p.m. Artists from across the region will demonstrate their skills as part of a craft fair, and food and beverages from Comfy Cow Ice Cream, Shack in the Back Barbeque, Lil Cheezers food truck, Brooks Hill Winery, Heine Brothers Coffee, Mr. G’s Kettle Corn, and local craft beer will be available for sale.

Individual camp sites run $15 per night and can be reserved in advance by calling (502) 368-5404. For folks needing more room, group sites are available for $30 per night. Payments are accepted over the phone with a major credit card.  The Louisville Metro Council’s Budget Committee will hold its next public hearing on Monday, May 21st at 6:00 pm to discuss Mayor Greg Fischer’s proposed 2018 -2019 Capital and Operating Budget

This opportunity is to hear from the public about more general aspects of the budget.

Zipline Kingdom is set to open to the public on June 1, 2018.    Tentative operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through mid-August.  

The price for the three-hour adventure is $70, but the first visit is free for Kentucky Kingdom season pass holders.

Kentucky Kingdom open weekends in May.  The water park, Hurricane Bay, opens weekends beginning May 19.  

Both Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay will be open daily beginning Memorial Day weekend.

TARC is a 24/7 operation. Interested applicants should be available to work all shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Requirements include; High School Diploma or GED and 21 years of age and no felonies or misdemeanor convictions in the past 5 years. A valid driver’s license, excellent driving record for previous 3 years and ability to obtain Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Must perform successfully on test(s).

Selected applicants must successfully complete an eight-week (40 hr week) training program to become a Coach Operator. The hourly rate of pay during the training period is $12.00. 

Upon successful completion of the training program the hourly rate of pay increases to $16.56 with periodic increases in pay. Current top operator pay is $23.90 per hour.

Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay are hiring for the upcoming park season. There are 1,400 positions in several departments, including rides, food service, retail, public safety, and guest services. Kentucky Kingdom lifeguards must be at least 16 years-old and ride operators must be at least 18. The Louisville Bats want to reward those who are involved in helping our community with free admission to baseball games. 

Community involvement vouchers are available for use on the following dates: May 28, June 11, July 2, and September 3.

Each voucher allows two people into the preferred seating area, but supplies are limited. Contact Jessica Adell at 212-2287, extension 0 or email at jadell@batsbaseball.com. 

Volunteers of America have recently opened new addiction recovery locations to better serve the community. They have several programs at 1436 South Shelby Street. Freedom House is a residential program for pregnant and parenting women. Shelby Men’s Recovery Center is also located on South Shelby. This is a 90 day residential program for men, where clients are able to work while seeking treatment. They have Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and services for men, women and families. These services are available at 2500 West Broadway and 4303 W Broadway. Transitional Housing will be available in July for homeless women with children who would like to continue their sobriety at 4303 W Broadway

If you are know someone who may be interested in VOA’s programs, please contact the intake office at 502-635-4530. They’re able to do a quick screening, verify their insurance, and set up an intake date and time.

For the 3rd year in a row, KIPDA Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living, and the Louisville Metro Office for Aging and Disabled Citizens are teaming up to provide fans for older adults and persons with disabilities to help offer relief from the sweltering summer heat.

Job Description:

• Provides a welcoming atmosphere by ensuring all patrons are given professional and friendly customer service in a safe environment.
• Ushers will be assigned to a specific position or a designated location in the seating area.
• Ushers are expected to treat all guests as individuals and provide answers to any and all questions.

Commitment: 

• Volunteers are asked to commit to at least 5 events in the season.
• Typical Shift: 5:00- 11:30 PM

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Professional and clean image for guests
• Ability to work with a broad range of people

From June 11 through August 3, Louisville Parks and Recreation is offering summer camps at six of its twelve community centers. Registration is now available for all Community Center camp locations.

Camps run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (early bird drop-off hours are available at some locations; please contact site for more details). For more information, such as registration times and documentation needed for registering campers, please click here.

This year’s camp theme, “Amazing Adventures”, reflects an array of daily on-site programs focusing on fitness, the arts, the environment and education. Camp programs are designed for all children in the community between the ages of 6-12. 

Featured activities include: Youth Health Initiative Program; Reds Rookie Success League; weekly field trips, special programs and daily on-site activities. 

Youths and teens will have the opportunity to socialize, make new friends, and build relationships in a safe, fun-filled environment. Camps at Sun Valley and Cyril Allgeier Community Center are already full. In addition, open programming will be offered at eight additional Parks and Rec sites – open programming means facilities will be open and supervised by activities will be largely unplanned.

The Fresh Stop Markets (FSM) are run by leaders in a grassroots food justice movement that operates from the belief that fresh food is a basic human right. FSMs are volunteer, community-driven farm-fresh food markets that pop up bi-weekly at local churches and community centers in neighborhoods that do not have grocery stores or farmers’ markets. Shareholders (“customers”) agree to cooperate and pay ahead of time, on an income-based sliding scale, for ten varieties of seasonal, local, organic produce that can then be picked up at a given time and day, at one of the 17 different Kentucky and southern Indiana Markets. This cooperation and financial commitment ensures that farmers don’t face the same degree of risk as with traditional farmers’ markets. The sliding scale means food is affordable and everyone is included.

WIC participants pay $6, those at or below 185 percent federal poverty guidelines pay $12, others pay $25, and those who would like to invest in the community pay $40. SNAP IS ACCEPTED. Everyone gets the same food! At every Market a chef hosts a cooking demonstration, offering samples and recipes for the very same vegetables and fruits that shareholders bring home. There is a diverse, family reunion atmosphere. Food justice workshops and the Fresh Stop Training Institute (FSTI) organize Fresh Stop Market leaders to unite around the pursuit of a healthy, just food system for all.

TreesLouisville is currently hosting a tree rebate. Those who purchase a shade tree can receive up to 40% off the purchase price. This is an initiative between TreesLouisville and Louisville Metro Division of Community Forestry to grow our tree canopy. Trees are more beneficial than you realize. For example, a yard tree can boost property value up to $10,000. They can also help lower heating & cooling bills. Louisville is the fastest warming urban heat island in the country; trees and shade help keep our city cool, improve air quality, and make for beautiful, safer neighborhoods.

Eligibility requirements include:

• Tree must be considered a shade tree
• Tree must be planted in a residential yard
• Program open to Jefferson County, KY residents only
• Max 3 submissions per household
• Tree must measure at least 1in in diameter at a point 6in above soil line
• Rebates are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis while funds are available
• Rebate is only eligible for purchase price of tree (i.e. excludes tax, planting or delivery fees, etc.)

 Cat Caretakers living in the following Jefferson County zip codes 40208, 40209, 40213, 40214, 40215, 40216, 40217, 40219, 40258 and 40272 are eligible  for spay/neuter services for unowned community cats,  They will be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, treated for flea and ear-mite medicine, given a great vet visit, ear-tipped (the universal symbol of a neutered cat) and returned.

When there are no more kittens; the number of cats gradually goes down  and annoying behaviors such as yowling, fighting, spraying stop.
