We need volunteers to make this event a success! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the office at 574-3908.

This is a FREE drive-through event open to residents in Louisville Metro and it's time to clean out your garage, basement and attic. Most of the same partners have joined us again this year. Please review the following flyer for accepted donations and plan to donate items on May 12!

Fiscal Year 2018-19 Budget

metro seal

Metro Council has started the review of the 2018-2019 budget recommended by Mayor Greg Fischer last week.  The proposed budget focuses heavily on infrastructure needs including paving streets and street improvements, sidewalk repair, a new animal shelter and funding to complete the Northeast Regional Library. I am also very happy that the Mayor has proposed $12 million for affordable housing, including $10 million to the Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

I chair the Budget Committee this year and our committee meetings on the budget start on May 8, leading to final budget approval on June 26. We have scheduled public hearings on the budget for May 9, 15 and 21. For complete information, click here

Sustainability Story: Report a Litterer

Litterer

At a recent neighborhood meeting, a constituent asked me to remind people of an important way they can make Louisville cleaner.

Did you know you can report a litterer through MetroCall at 574-5000 or at https://louisvilleky.gov/government/metrocall-311/services/report-litterer?  If you observe a vehicle littering, write down their vehicle license plate number, description, and where you observed the littering and report it by phone or the online form.  The owner of the vehicle will receive a letter saying that someone reported seeing litter being thrown from their vehicle, and reminding the owner that littering is punishable by a fine of up to $500 and/or up to a year in jail.

By the way, cigarette butts are litter.  In fact, Keep America Beautiful reports that tobacco products comprise roughly 38% of all U.S. roadway litter.  Paper (22%) and plastic (19%) are the next largest types of materials. Most roadway litter appears to originate from motorists and pedestrians.  Individual actions by motorists (52%), pedestrians (22.8%), improperly covered trucks and cargo loads (16.4%), and other behaviors are the source of roadway litter.

Help keep Louisville clean by never littering yourself and by reporting a litterer when you see one.

We’d like to feature your sustainability story - a resident or business doing good things for the environment.  Riding the bus, bicycling, walking, gardening and more - our eNews will feature practices which can benefit all of us.  Send your story to Bill Hollander or Kyle Ethridge
