 Sadly, Mr. Ray Crider, longtime community activist, Treasurer of the Auburndale Neighborhood Association, husband, father, grandfather and jewel to the city of Louisville passed away on March 22, 2018.
Ray was a kind spirit, he will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his wife Marilyn.

  G. Ray Crider, 78, of Louisville, died March 22, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Cecil and Mary Gladys Crider, and his brother John T. Crider. He is survived by loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn Kay Crider. He is also survived by his daughters, Andrea Derouen (Jeff), Dana Delepierre (Rick), and his sons, Tim (Sandy) and David Crider as well as 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Alice Stewart (Wayne).
Ray was a graduate of Flaget High School in 1957. He began work as a machinist and a member of IAMAW #681 at Brown Williamson Tobacco Company in 1958, serving in several offices including President. In 1972 Ray was selected to serve as the Political/Legislative Director of the Kentucky State AFL-CIO. In 1992 he was employed by the Kentucky Laborers District Council as the Administrator of the LECET Trust Fund. In 1998 Ray was employed by the Political Department of the National AFL-CIO where he worked in political campaigns. He retired from the National AFL-CIO in December 2001.
Ray devoted his working life to the Labor Movement. He was the Labor recipient of the 1999 Kentucky Labor/Management Award, the LJCDP Volunteer of the Year Award in 2009, and the Metro Democratic Club Service Award in 2017.
Ray was honorably discharged in 1965 from the Kentucky National Guard.
Ray also served several terms as President of the Louisville/Jefferson County Revenue Commission, was a member of the Louisville Labor/Management Committee, a past member of the Louisville Urban League, the Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee, the Metro United Way, the Special Skills Olympics Committee, the Louisville Gardens Board of Directors, the Labor Representative on the State Unemployment Insurance Appeals Commission, the Pastoral Council of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and the Southwest Community Festival Board.
Ray adored his wife, Marilyn. He was a well-loved fixture in his community. From helping on a local campaign, attending a union function, or leading his neighborhood group, Ray was quick-witted, quick to laugh, and quick to make dear friends.
Just this past Tuesday, Ray received his 31st year chip from Alcoholics Anonymous. Not only did he help himself, he helped many others. Ray’s first love was his family. The highlight of his life was watching U of L ballgames, traveling with and just being together with his grandkids. We all will miss him terribly.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 24 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 25th from noon until 8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 5505 New Cut Road with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, The Franciscan Shelter House, and the Flaget Alumni Association Charity Fund of Louisville.
 
 On Sunday, March 18th, Councilman David Yates joined Mr. Steve Wiser, Mrs. Robin Wiser and Mrs. Rusty Weber in unveiling Kentucky's newest Historical Highway Marker featuring the history of Wisertown and the Wiser family as well as St. Andrew's Church Road.
 The Wiser Family's farm once resided where Doss High School and Trunnel Elementary now exist. The new highway marker was placed at the entrance of Doss High School.
 The Louisville Water Company states:
"Louisville Water’s work on Palatka Road is close to
completion. Palatka will be open by Friday evening March 23. We still have work
to complete on Iroquois Park Road that may require the intermittent closure of
one lane of Palatka Road between Iroquois Park Road and Cardinal Hill Road.
The work at Iroquois Park Road will only be conducted
outside of rush hour between the hours of 9:00-3:00 with the utilization of a
flagger to safely move traffic around the construction zone.
Louisville Water greatly appreciates your patience as we
work to make this important infrastructure improvement."

& Passport Health Plan Spring Community-Wide Cleanup is

cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 14th with the suggested cleanup
times of 8:00am – 12:00pm. (If the date we have set doesn't work for your
group, that's OK, we will support any cleanup that takes place in the weeks
surrounding April 14th.)
All
cleanup teams will receive bags and gloves at no cost, and the first 5,000
volunteers to register will also receive a free t-shirt. Brightside welcomes
groups of all sizes, big and small and if you're not sure where you would
like to hold your cleanup we can help with that too, just give us a call or
send us an email and we will be happy to make a suggestion.
Supply
pick up will be held on Sunday, April 8th at the Iroquois Park Amphitheater,
1080 Amphitheater Rd, 40214 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
All
supplies are pre-packaged by group for team leaders to collect. If a group
fails to pick up their supplies on April 8, and they have t-shirts, the
t-shirts go to other volunteers on a first come, first served basis. Groups
who do not have t-shirts can call Brightside on Tuesday, April 10th to see if
any t-shirts have been returned.
Brightside
is proud to be holding our Cleanup with the Give A Day - Mayor's Week of
Service for the fifth year. Cleanups are an integral part of
Brightside's mission and without the help of your volunteer group, and many
other volunteers throughout the year, we could not achieve our goals of a
cleaner, greener and more sustainable Louisville.

 Dixie Highway will be the first area of Louisville to receive a
“RAPID” bus line – a faster-than-express service that will make it easier and
safer for Dixie residents to get to and from work, school, and health care
facilities.
This work is part of the $35 million New Dixie Highway Project.
The New Dixie Highway Project team, including officials at TARC, solicited
input from Dixie Highway commuters and bus riders last summer before naming the
system and coming up with a design for the specially branded buses.
The RAPID bus line will mean:

miles of new TARC service - from Valley Station to Downtown
- 37
distinctive TARC stations and stops
- 15
min frequency all day
- Real
time information to customers
- Queue
jump lanes at some intersections
- Improved
pedestrian and ADA access: sidewalks, crosswalks and new streetscape
Integration with bike, pedestrian, and
connections with other TARC routes
 Reporting potholes is
easier than ever! Keeping our roads and community pristine is an important
issue to everyone in the area. Follow any of the three simple methods listed

3. Whom is the contractor charged with the infrastructure repair and repaving of Dixie Highway?
- Hall Contracting of Kentucky, Inc. was awarded this contract in the amount of $14.5 million from the State.
4. Will the contractor be penalized for not completing all work by the completion date?
- If the project continues beyond the May 15, 2018 deadline the contractor will be assessed a fine of $25,000 per day.
