Teaching City Governance with Focus 101

DAJ

Last Thursday, President James spoke at Focus Louisville, a two-and-a-half day program comprised of about 50 local leaders who are exploring issues in our community.  Over the meeting, he and participants explored the fundamentals of city government, such as

  • How the districts are split up
  • What is the role of the council vs role of the Mayor
  • How do priorities differ in the different districts?  (as in – the types of issues for a west or southwest council member are different than for an eastern council member)
  • The importance of knowing who your metro council representative is
  • Ways citizens can get involved (boards and commissions)

This program holds a spot for the Metro Council president to be a speaker (President Yates, President King and President Tandy have all filled this role most recently).

Throughout his tenure, President James has been committed to making the Council's business open and accessible to all citizens. We don't forget whom we're serving; keep an eye out in this newsletter and across social media for more on what your representatives are up to.

Waterfront Adventure Playground Completely Renovated for Spring 2018

Playground

For the first time since its opening in July 2003, Waterfront Park's Adventure Playground is undergoing a complete renovation. All improvements will be completed and open for play Spring 2018.

The completed work includes resurfacing of the pyramid, painting and restoration of the large climbing structure, repairs to the steamboat structure, painting of the shade pavilions, and new musical instruments, including two kodo drums and a xylophone.

Glorious Fish

Waterplay Area expansion and improvements to come include repair and repainting of the spraying fish, a new 13 ft. water structure called Versa Splash, and restoration of the Waterplay concrete surface. The spraying fish are original to the playground and have been a popular attraction through the years.

Adventure Playground renovation was funded by a grant from the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development.
