If weather
and temperatures permit, re-striping on the southbound lanes of Dixie Highway
will take place this Saturday, Feb. 17 between Interstate 264 (Watterson
Expressway) and Upper Hunters Trace.
The New Dixie
Highway Project is designed to improve safety and traffic efficiency along one
of the city’s busiest corridors, and will include new fiber-linked traffic
signals, new concrete and landscaped medians, and a bus rapid transit line from
TARC.
Construction
on the northbound lanes of Dixie Highway began in early January between
Greenwood Road and Blanton Lane. The roadway is reduced to two lanes in this
section of the project. Crews have been removing the existing curb and
sidewalks, locating underground utilities and installing drainage structures.
More information is available through the project website
(www.TheNewDixieHighway.com)
and social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter.
Public Meeting
Scheduled For Project Update
People who live and work along Dixie
Highway can learn more about the New Dixie Highway Project at a public meeting
scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 15, at the Shively Community Center, 1901 Park
Road.
Those attending will learn more about
the design of the new Bus Rapid Transit system, as well as how U-turns will be
effectively and safely handled. U-turns will become a necessary part of driving
once medians are placed along much of Dixie Highway.
The event will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is a come-and-go Open House style event that is designed so that
people can drop in, as convenient, during that window. You do not have to be
there precisely at 5 p.m. to learn about the project.
