 The Jefferson County Board of
Education (JCBE) has named two finalists for the position of superintendent of
the Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) District.
The two finalists are
JCPS Acting Superintendent Marty Pollio and JCPS Chief Operations Officer Mike
Raisor.
The Board is interested in
hearing your priorities for the next superintendent and your thoughts to help
inform the Board's interviews and selection. Families in the district have two
different ways to participate in the process, and I hope you take advantage of
both.
First, please participate in an
online survey by visiting JCPSYourVoice.com. The survey will remain open until February 2. If
you do not have internet access at home, we've partnered with local libraries
to have computers where you can complete the survey. You can also drop by our
West Louisville Satellite Office on Tuesdays or Thursdays to complete the
survey.
In addition, we're having
public forums that will provide in-person opportunities to meet and hear from
our finalists. All of the events will take place at 6 p.m.

Now that the teams have been chosen for this year’s big
game, Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about possible ticket fraud.
The secondary market can be great for non-season ticket holders, occasional
fans, or those making a last-minute decision to see the big game, but to avoid
disappointment, make sure your tickets are legitimate.
BBB offers the following tips for safe ticket
purchases:
Check out the seller/broker. Look them up on bbb.org to see what others have experienced.
Check to see if they are a member of the National Association of Ticket Brokers
(natb.org). NATB members offer a 200%
guarantee on tickets that don’t arrive in time for a game, concert or show.
Know the difference between a ticket broker (a
legitimate and accredited reseller) and a ticket scalper (an unregulated and
unlicensed ticket seller).
Look for secure websites that have https and a padlock on the
page.
Check the ticket broker’s
refund policy. Only buy from a ticket reseller that
provides clear details about the terms of the transaction.
Always use a credit card so you have some recourse if the
tickets are not as promised; do not use cash, wire money straight to the
seller, use gift cards, or use a prepaid debit card.
Be cautious of Craigslist. Craigslist does not provide a guarantee if
you get scammed. If possible, conduct the transaction in a public place and
don’t pay any money up-front.
Check out the seats ahead of
time. Always
ask for section, row, and seat number to avoid obstructed view seats or seats
that do not exist. Also ask for a picture of the tickets so you can confirm the
tickets match the venue.
If you
believe you have purchased a counterfeit ticket, immediately report it to the
NATB’s hotline at 630-510-4594 and file a complaint with BBB at bbb.org.
For more consumer tips, visit bbb.org
or call 1-800-388-2222.

 Yard waste collection in the
Urban Services District of Louisville Metro (the former City of Louisville
boundaries) is now on seasonal shutdown. Regular collection on yard waste
routes is suspended until March 12.
Seasonal suspension of yard
waste collection was done on a two-week trial basis in 2017 and found to be
successful. Because of that success, yard waste collection will go on seasonal
shutdown annually from January 1 until the middle of March.
The shutdown is possible
because yard waste collection volumes are very low in the winter months. It
allows Metro Publie Works to direct additional resources to the effort to clear
our streets and roads, including interstate highways, of litter in advance of
spring along with other solid waste activities.
During the suspension period,
citizens should not put yard waste out for collection. Any yard waste problems
should be reported as usual to MetroCall at 311 or 574-5000. Those calls will
be handled on an as needed basis rather than running crews full-time on routes
across the city.
Come join us for our February 24h evening annual fundraiser,
"Dinner with The Monarchs" at Valley Hope Center, 10801 Deering
Road. Our Mardi Gras theme offers a way to experience thrilling fun while
helping neighbors in need.
We have a delectable dinner, an exciting auction, and melodious
music by The Monarchs. Tickets are only $35 apiece, the best buy in
Louisville for dining, bidding, and listening that takes us back to the good
ole’ days. Call 935-0310, or stop by 8504 Terry Road and pick up your
tickets. Last year Southwest Communities netted over $50,000 to help our
local neighbors in need.

31W (Dixie Highway):
Lane closures and sidewalk closures in place
between Greenwood Road and Heaton Road (mile markers 11.7 to 14.5) due to
construction for access management and bus rapid transit lines.
Roadway is reduced to two lanes on northbound Dixie Highway
between Greenwood Road and Blanton Lane.
Lane closures are possible on
southbound Dixie Highway between Heaton Road and Upper Hunters Trace.
The work zones are clearly marked with signs indicating upcoming lane
changes. The contractor has also added some new striping along
intersections to guide traffic through these temporary lane changes.
One
of the most common questions we get is about whether we will have fewer lanes
with the New Dixie Highway.
NO!
- While there will be temporary lane closures during the construction process,
there will be no permanent reduction in the number of lanes.
- Medians have been designed at different widths depending on space availability,
so that the lane number can be maintained.
- Furthermore, all lanes will be open
to all traffic. (For example, there will not be a dedicated bus lane.)
Maps of Dixie Highway improvements, including planned medians and sidewalks are available for viewing on The New Dixie Highway website.
Medians are a vital part of reducing congestion and improving safety by reducing the number of left turns. In some sections, the medians will be planted with native grasses and low-maintenance plants to beautify the area while also making traffic safer and more efficient.
Limiting left turns will help make the New Dixie Highway a safer, and less congested commute for everyone. Left turns create backlogs of traffic, because vehicles waiting to turn block a lane of travel. Left turns are also one of the most dangerous parts of driving, and the ensuing wrecks cause more congestion. Other highways that have installed similar medians have seen a 30 percent reduction in crashes.
The maps also feature the new, wider sidewalks on both sides of the highway, which are an important safety feature for pedestrians. Most of the sidewalks will be eight feet wide, much larger than current sidewalks in the area, and will help pedestrians safely reach bus transportation or other destinations.
