Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13) and the Center for Neighborhoods issue a special invitation to the community to come out for the unveiling of a magnificent work of public art.


“This is a wonderful community project and I want to thank Artist Sabra Lynne Crockett  for the fantastic job she has done in bringing the visual beauty of our neighborhoods to a canvass that includes landmarks of our history throughout the Auburndale area,” says Welch. “This is the first PAINT mural in the South End of Louisville Metro.”



$5 Discount Vouchers Now Available for Jack-O-Lantern Festival

The 2017 Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular is October 12– November 5 in Iroquois Park with 5,000 carved pumpkins lining a ¼-mile walking trail, illuminated at night as an “art show”. 

Councilwoman Welch is pleased to sponsor a voucher program for the Jack ‘O Lantern Spectacular that may be used for $5 off the regular ticket price to help support the event. 

The Voucher Program is limited to Jefferson County residents only to be used any Monday through Thursday.

TO ORDER TICKETS:

  • Beginning September 25th – October 16th 2017, District 13 residents call Metro Council at 502- 574-2854 and give your address. 
  • Voucher(s) will be mailed to you with an event  flyer
  • Limit is 4 vouchers per household
  • Beginning October 17th any remaining vouchers will be available to all Louisville Metro residents.
  • Vouchers have no cash value.

ADMISSION:

  • Sunday – Friday: $12 adults, $10 seniors 62+, $9 children 3-12, (children under 3 are free) 
  • Saturday: $16 adults, $14 seniors 62+,  $13 children 3-12, (children under 3 are free) 
  • $5 Vouchers must be redeemed in person at Iroquois Amphitheater Box Office.

BOX OFFICE HOURS:

  • Monday – Friday 9:00am-4:00pm, then reopens at 5:00pm.
  • Saturday and Sunday opens at 4:00pm

Registration for the Brightside & Passport Health Plan Fall Community-Wide Cleanup is open!!   

The cleanup will take place on Saturday, October 21st with the suggested cleanup times of 8:00am – 12:00pm. (If the date we have set doesn't work for your group, that's OK, we will support any cleanup that takes place in the weeks surrounding October 21st.) 

REGISTER YOUR GROUP HERE!

All cleanup teams will receive bags and gloves at no cost, and the first 5,000 volunteers to register will also receive a free t-shirt. Brightside welcomes groups of all sizes, big and small and if you're not sure where you would like to hold your cleanup we can help with that too, just give us a call or send us an email and we will be happy to make a suggestion. 

Supply pick up will be held on Sunday, October 15th at the Iroquois Park Amphitheater, 1080 Amphitheater Rd, 40214 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.

                100 Day Challenge to End Youth Homelessness

                community leaders and government members recently launched the 100-Day Challenge, in pursuit of an ambitions 100-day goal to end homelessness among young people in our community. In 2016, there were 443 homeless young adults (age 18-24) in Louisville. The 100-Day Challenge team’s goal is to house at least 100 of these identified homeless young adults by November 8, 2017.                 How You Can Help
                   Rent a property to a homeless young adult who may have a poor/non-existent rental record.
                   Pledge funds to help with moving expenses and deposits.
                   Sponsor a storage unit to store donated furniture for youth apartments.
                   Donate supplies that homeless services programs need such as food, TARC tickets, backpacks, etc.

                  Show your Olmsted Park Pride and help make a difference by volunteering with us! Tasks may include weeding, mulching, painting and general park beautification. We are looking for up to 30 volunteers a night, to serve between 6pm-11:30pm on weeknights and 6pm-12am on weekends. There will be orientations held for all volunteers. Volunteers receive snacks, refreshments, and one FREE TICKET to the event for every shift worked.

                  Golftober Special! at Metro Parks Golf Courses

                  "Golftober” is back! Louisville Parks and Recreation will offer an affordable family golfing package at its nine golf courses each weekend in October.

                  For only $25, a family of up to four members can play 9 holes at any Metro Parks course. The $25 includes greens and carts fees, and families can take advantage of the deal after 4:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during October.

                  The golf special is available Oct. 6-8, Oct. 13-15, Oct. 20-23 and Oct. 27-29. Families are encouraged to book a tee time in advance at the golf course of their choice.

                  The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, through their EQIP Program, is taking applications for Seasonal High Tunnel Systems that allow for extending the growing season of vegetable gardening operations.  These plastic covered systems are efforts by USDA and the Jefferson County Soil & Water Conservation District to increase the seasonal production of locally grown fruits and vegetables.                   Louisville has a new Farmers Market Association (LFMA).  The purpose of the new association is to support farmers markets, farmers and local food producers to promote access to a healthy and sustainable food system. LFMA does this by providing assistance such as marketing, financial advice, vendor and volunteer recruitment to increase the capacity of farmers markets.  It also helps to facilitate better access to healthy fruits and vegetables for everyone by helping the markets support SNAP (food stamps) participants through the Double Dollars Program and Free EBT Equipment and seniors through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program
