I-264 Ramp Closure @ Dixie Scheduled to Begin Friday September 22nd

ATTENTION SOUTHWEST MOTORISTS: The sidewalk improvements and ramp realignment at Dixie Highway & the Watterson Exchange are happening now and an upcoming ramp closure on Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway) in Jefferson County is scheduled to begin on Friday, Sept. 22. This closure is part of a safety improvement project at the exit ramp from westbound I-264 to northbound US 31W (Dixie Highway) in Shively.

The project will realign the I-264 West ramp to Dixie Highway North (Exit 8B) into a T-intersection, including a traffic signal to safely move vehicles off the exit. The new alignment will be for right turns only and will have dual right turn lanes. To accomplish this work, the exit ramp must closed for a week and half.

This ramp closure is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22 and continue through 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 2. Motorists will be detoured via I-264 West to Cane Run Road (Exit 5) to I-264 East where they can then access US 31W North.

In addition to the ramp improvements, a new sidewalk is being constructed under the Watterson Expressway on the east side of Dixie Highway. The sidewalk extends from Heaton Road to Herbert Avenue.

Milestone Contractors LP of Columbus, Indiana was awarded this contract in the amount of $724,484. Work is scheduled for completion by November 15, 2017.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.

Southwest Breast Cancer Awareness Group 19th Annual Golf Scramble at Sun Valley - Sunday, September 24

SWBCAG

Southwest Breast Cancer Awareness Group (“SWBCAG”) is a grass roots organization of women who are breast cancer survivors, friends, and family, who raise funds to support women and families dealing with breast cancer.  Our goal is to support early detection and awareness of breast cancer.  Our support group, “Connections,” brings women together for support after their diagnosis of breast cancer. We actively partner with other organizations to support our community and raise funds.

Many dollars are needed to support our educational efforts for our community and to assist breast cancer patients and their families.  We are holding the 19th annual golf scramble at Sun Valley Golf Course on Sunday, September 24, 2017, which is our major fundraiser.

We are asking for support from our business community friends for this very important endeavor.  Specifically, you can help us by sponsoring a hole for a donation of $100 or providing an item or gift card for a door prize.

The Southwest Breast Cancer Awareness Group is a non-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible. If you need any additional information or would like to have a donation picked up, please contact Joyce Atcher at 502-693-8400 or by email at joyce.atcher@twc.com.

Support Locally Grown Foods - Grow Vegetables All Year Long!

EQUIP

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, through their EQIP Program, is taking applications for Seasonal High Tunnel Systems that allow for extending the growing season of vegetable gardening operations.  These plastic covered systems are efforts by USDA and the Jefferson County Soil & Water Conservation District to increase the seasonal production of locally grown fruits and vegetables. The Soil and Water Conservation District received a grant to help support the USDA effort by extending this opportunity to urban gardeners, non-profits and churches.

For more information on the program and how to apply, contact Kurt Mason @ (859) 490-0113 or kurt.mason@ky.usda.gov
