Bud Dorsey is West Louisville's most iconic living photographer. This event will celebrate the publication of his long-overdue first professionally published book AND the opening of a solo exhibit of 30 of his photographs; both the book and the exhibit are entitled Available Light. This event will occur Thursday, August 24th 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM at the Muhammad Ali Center, 144 North 6th Street.
Bud has dedicated over 50 years to documenting life in Louisville, especially the experiences of African Americans. He spent 15 years as a freelancer (JET, Ebony, the Courier-Journal,the Louisville Defender, etc.) and 20+ years as the sole full-time staff photographer for the Louisville Defender, and since his retirement in 2002, he has continued to take photographs every day.
The photographs in Available Light show life in Louisville as many have never seen it before. Bud teaches us how to look at our community: with love, curiosity, respect, nuance, concern, playfulness, hope, heartbreak, and pride. Available Light is a love letter to Louisville, crafted outside of mainstream arts and media worlds over the course of decades by a man who cares and has always been there to bear witness.
This book is the culmination of an 18-month collaboration between Bud Dorsey and the Louisville Story Program, the book's publisher. The exhibit is a collaboration between the Louisville Story Program and the Muhammad Ali Center.

The ramp was designed and built by G. Ramps AG, a German firm specializing in
skate park elements construction.
Recently, approximately one-third of the park was closed for nearly a year
because of work on the Ohio River Bridges Project. The Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet provided functional replacement funding to Metro
Government for the relocation of the affected portion of the park on property
adjacent to the existing park.
The park reopened April 2015 with new features including updated street
elements and a “snake run.” The bowl and full pipe, which were fixtures to the
original design, were modernized.
Construction will begin
August 28 and is scheduled to be completed September 1, which will complete the
park’s renovation. Cost for the project is $328,000 and includes
demolition of the old ramp and the purchase and installation of the new ramp

 Fresh
Stop Markets are bi-weekly fresh food markets that “pop up" at local
churches, community centers and housing authorities in fresh food insecure
neighborhoods.
Community members purchase
shares of 10-12 varieties of seasonal produce in advance so that farmers don’t
face the same degree of risk as they would with a standard farmers’ market.

MSD wants you to know
that anyone in Louisville Metro can purchase flood insurance and even though
flood insurance isn’t always required, people outside the mapped floodplain can
still be at risk. Over 20% of all National Flood Insurance Program flood
insurance claims are from areas outside the mapped high-risk areas. Just a few
inches of water from a flood can cause tens of thousands of dollars in
damage. Protect yourself and your home by calling your insurance agent to
learn more about flood insurance or by going to www.floodsmart.gov |

 Public
Comment Period for New Fare Collection System Begins
In
December 2016, TARC selected SPX Genfare, a new vendor, to implement an innovative
Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS). The new system will replace the
farebox that has been used on TARC buses for the last 25 years.
Starting
today, TARC will be collecting public comment on a proposed fare collection
policy. There will be many ways to comment including eight (8) public meetings
hosted by TARC where attendees are invited to provide feedback.
The
new fare collection system will allow passengers to pay for their rides with
the tap of a smartcard as they board a TARC bus. Fares will not increase and
cash – exact fare – will still be an option for payment.
The
new smart cards will replace all paper products - tickets, passes and paper
transfer slips throughout the system, except on TARC3. Electronic transfers
between routes will be available after launch.
Passes
purchased under the new policy will be activated after the first use, unlike
current passes which are activated on specific calendar day(s). TARC also plans
to offer new products like the 7-day pass with the new system.
The
TARC3 paratransit service will not be part of the initial system change, but is
expected to be phased in at a later time.
TARC
has planned Open Houses in various communities to gather as much public comment
as possible. Below are meeting locations, times and dates and other ways to
comment on the fare collection system and policy for those who cannot attend.
“Now
is the time to weigh in and have your voice heard while the system is being
designed,” says Executive Director Barry Barker. “We’ll continue to provide
information as work progresses and decisions are made.”
Details
about the plans, including a draft of the fare policy that will govern the new
system are available at ridetarc.org. Comments will be carefully
reviewed and considered by the TARC Board of Directors before the new fare
policy and other fare collection system decisions are finalized.
For
more information please contact TARC Customer Service at 502-585-1234 or by
email at info@ridetarc.org.
