Local artist Sabra Lynne Crockett talking about the New Cut Road Mural and its design at the July 15 unveiling. The design for this project is inspired by the landmarks, images and history shared by community individuals at the project’s initial public meeting. The project is scheduled to be finished in September.
The Mural is sponsored by Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch, through Center For Neighborhoods PAINT - Producing Art in Neighborhoods Together program.
"I am honored to sponsor the New Cut Road mural and partner with the Center For Neighborhoods. This mural will capture some of the important landmarks that make this area so special, as well as highlight the unique neighborhoods that make up District 13 and Louisville's South End,” stated Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch.
The design was revealed July 15 at a public meeting with introduction of the artist and local historians, Stefanie Buzan and Rosemary McCandless, sharing stories about landmarks.
Partners in the project include Louisville Visual Art, Louisville Forward, Louisville Metro Department of Public Works, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
You can follow the progress of the project at https://www.facebook.com/newcutroadmural/
