Metro Council Approves FY2018 Budget
On Thursday, June 22, the Metro Council passed the Operating and Capital Budgets for Fiscal Year 2017-2018. The Budget contains expenditures of approximately $855 million, of which $107 million will be spent on capital projects. This year, unlike previous ones, the Metro Council was afforded the opportunity to review the budget for an additional month. We used that time to hold six additional hours of hearings with departments as well as district specific meetings with each office.

Northeast Regional Library Construction takes another step forward!
|
With their approval of the fiscal year 2018 budget, the Louisville Metro Council has taken another step in moving construction of the Northeast Regional Library forward.
The Northeast Regional Library will complete the regional library vision of the Library Master Plan approved by the Metro Council in 2009. The Southwest Regional opened in 2014, and South Central Library is days away from opening.
Located at the intersection of New La Grange Road and Whipps Mill Road, near the Northeast YMCA, the Northeast Regional Library will be built in a park-like setting on land currently owned by the city. With 40,000 square feet, the new state-of-the-art facility will replace the much smaller Westport branch which has been housed inside Westport Middle School.
The Northeast Regional Library will be funded through a public/private partnership that includes funding from state and metro governments, alongside funds raised by the Library Foundation. The Library Foundation conducted successful capital campaigns to support the Southwest Regional and South Central Regional libraries as well.
