a vote of 24 and 0 and one abstention, the Louisville Metro Council has
approved the 2017-2018 Capital and Operating Budgets that have a continued
emphasis on road paving, vacant and abandoned properties, criminal justice and
quality of life investments.
The
Committee has approved an amended budget focusing on the theme of “Building a
Better Community.” The theme covers four areas:

- Funding for Public Defender ($50,000)
- Funding for a Casey’s Law Advocate with JCAO ($36,000)
- Funding for Two Deputy Coroners & Morgue Expansion ($170,000)
- Study/Renovation of LMPD HQ & Fiscal Court Building ($300,000)
- No More Red Dots ($550,000)
Increasing Investments in our
Residents through Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatments
- Funding for Volunteers of America Freedom House ($515,000)
- Funding for Centerstone Living Room Project ($325,000)

Infrastructure and Facilities
- $6.4. million added to Mayor’s Paving Road Improvements
- Total Paving Investment $22,610,000
- Total Additional Funding for sidewalk repairs $2,500,000 ($1.5M added)

forecast, FridayFest at Highview Park scheduled for Friday, June 23 featuring
the band Mary Mary has been postponed and rescheduled to August 11, 2017.
FridayFest will resume on July
7th with:
Caribou (Pop/Rock)
and
Coal Mine Canary (Acoustic Rock)

Jefferson Memorial Forest Hosts Great American Camp-out June 24-25
Jefferson
Memorial Forest will connect with thousands of other campers and the
great outdoors on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, as they host the
annual Great
American Campout. This Great American Campout, in its 13th year,
is a great way for friends, families, and children experience nature, sleep
under the stars and create lasting family memories.
Jefferson Memorial Forest will provide the campfire, story-telling, and night
hikes; you provide your dinner, breakfast, and tent.
In the morning campers will have the
day to explore the Forest by hiking any of our 35 miles of trails, fishing at
Tom Wallace Lake with free fishing poles provided at the Welcome Center, or
unleashing your adventurous side by taking on the GoApe tree-top adventure
course (reservations with GoApe required).
The price of the campout is $25 per family of 4, and $5 each family member.
Platform tents are available to rent at a cost of $15.
Pre-registration is required by calling the Forest’s Welcome Center at

Fan Fair giveaway event on June 24.
On June 24, a “Fan Fair” will be held from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. to distribute fans at The Edison Center located at 701 West Ormsby Avenue, Louisville. Fans will be available for seniors 60 and older, as well as to individuals with physical disabilities, on first-come, first-served basis.
Fan Fair qualifications:
- Person 60 years or older
- OR documentation verified by a physician of a disability
- Must be a resident of Jefferson, Oldham, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble or Bullitt counties
- Proof of address and age will we required
- One fan per household
Coinciding with the Fan Fair will be a health fair to provide basic health checks and information from local resources and a "Take Back" Prescription Drug Toss event sponsored by the Louisville Metro Center for Public Health & Wellness and LMPD.
