Happy Fourth of July from the District 10 office
Everyone at the District 10 wish you, your family and friends a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend!
Trash, recycling will be delayed for the holiday
There will be no residential
garbage, recycling or yard waste collection within the Louisville Metro Urban
Services District (former Louisville city limits) on Independence Day, Tuesday
July 4. The usual Tuesday collections will be made on Wednesday, and the rest
of the week will follow the same pattern of a one day delay.
The Waste Reduction Center, at
600 Meriwether Avenue, all staffed recycling centers and the Haz Bin hazardous
materials facility at 7501 Grade Lane will also be closed on July 4. They will
resume normal operations on Wednesday, July 5.
Residents who rely on private
haulers for garbage, recycling and yard waste collection should consult those
haulers about holiday collection schedules.
Regarding the sharrows on Taylor and Illinois Avenue
As a representative of Louisville Metro Government, I apologize for the sharrows being painted on Taylor and Illinois.
Our office was not made aware of nor given a chance to offer input in this process.
If we had been made aware, we obviously would have declined due to the MSD construction work in the area.
More importantly, we would have communicated with neighbors and the community to get your input on the decision.
What are sharrows? Shared Lane Markings (SLMs), or “sharrows,” are road markings used to indicate a shared lane environment for bicycles and automobiles. Shared lane markings indicate to motorists that bicyclists use this road.
Sharrows also direct bicyclists to a safer alternative route than heavily traveled roads such as Preston or Poplar Level Road.
In the future, our office will be included on such decisions by Louisville Metro's City Initiative Bike Louisville so that we all have a chance to offer input. If you have additional questions, contact Bike Louisville at 574-6473.

Councilman Mulvihill attends Schnitzelburg Area Community Council annual Ice Cream Social Monday
Above, Councilman Mulvihill listened to the concerns of a small resident, Frankie, at the social, perhaps explaining that he cannot legislate later bedtimes.
Above, Donald Davis, one of the founders of Kentucky Harm Reduction Coalition, spoke to residents about the opioid epidemic and how the needle exchange is saving lives. Davis also shared information on the antidote Narcan, and how residents can get training on how to use it on someone who has overdosed.
Thanks to Dairy Del for providing the ice cream for the event!
Councilman Mulvihill presents proclamation to Jerry Nichols on his retirement
Councilman Mulvihill visited Jerry Nichols' retirement party at Standiford Field Thursday to deliver a Louisville Metro proclamation to the man who has served Camp Taylor for 50 years as a volunteer fireman and worked nearly 48 years for the airport.
Nichols started working at the airport as a radar technician in June 1969, a month before man landed on the moon. He worked with everything from punch cards to cloud computing, always adapting to each leap in technology. All the while, he has been a terrific and supportive husband and father.
"Jerry Nichols has led through service and dedication to the community," Mulvihill said, "and we wish him the best as he begins the next chapter in his life."

LMPD reminds public of anonymous tip line
Contrary to what many people think, when you submit a tip it's not recorded, there is no caller ID, and they don't want to know your name. When a tip is entered, the person taking the tip doesn't even use gender identity of the person giving the tip. You can provide a tip:
- By phone call to 574-LMPD (5673)
- Sending a text to the number 274637, or CRIMES. Just type LMPD, plus your tip
- Online by clicking here
The Internet-based systems route messages through a server that encrypts cell phone numbers before they get to police, making tips virtually impossible to track. The anonymous texting feature allows people with tips to communicate with police in near-real time.
Just like callers to a crime hot line, text tipsters can collect rewards for significant information. It's done with the cooperation of banks that hand over the cash -- no questions asked -- to people who present a code issued by police.
