No residential garbage, recycling or yard waste collection on Memorial Day

There will be no residential garbage, recycling or yard waste collection within the Louisville Metro Urban Services District (former Louisville city limits) on Memorial Day, Monday May 29. Collection through the week will be delayed by one day because of the holiday.

Other District 10 residents who rely on private haulers for garbage, recycling and yard waste collection should consult those haulers about holiday collection schedules.

Also, the Waste Reduction Center on Meriwether Avenue, along with all staffed recycling centers and the Haz Bin hazardous waste disposal site, will be closed on Saturday May 27 in recognition of the holiday and closed on Monday as usual. A complete list of the sites and regular operating hours is at louisvilleky.gov/government/public-works/services/recycling.

Scam Alert: Steep prescription discounts are a sign of a fake pharmacy scam

Scam Alert: phone scammers are targeting Kentucky families and seniors who are seeking to save money on their prescription drugs.

Staff at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Office of Inspector General, contacted Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear’s office after intercepting a phone caller attempting to lure in an unsuspecting victim by offering well-known prescription drugs for pennies on the dollar.

Beshear said once the caller has the victim’s financial information they charge hundreds of thousands of dollars in unauthorized transactions on the victim’s credit card and the prescription drugs never arrive.

To verify a pharmacy’s license in Kentucky visit the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy website, or visit the FDA website for additional safe pharmacy information.

New Directions is dedicated to creating safe and habitable homes for low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners. Repair Affair mobilizes community-wide resources and volunteer support to assist these vulnerable homeowners with essential home repairs.

The focus of Repair Affair is on home safety, security, weatherization and neighborhood stability. By simply installing hand rails, fixing broken steps, or making modifications to accommodate a wheel chair we can make it possible for a senior or disabled homeowner to remain independently in their own home. Best of all the assistance is completely free to the recipients.
