D9 Community Conversation – March 21

MSD Beargrass Creek

Join us on Tuesday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana, 2115 Lexington Road, for our bi-monthly D9 Community Conversation. Ms. Angela Akridge, MSD’s Chief Engineer, will be one of our guest speakers to present the 20 Year Comprehensive Facility Plan for MSD. Please plan to join the discussion about our community’s needs and risks, and the cost to meet them. Last year, MSD sought a substantial rate increase and it will likely do so again. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss how the money would be used and to hear your comments and questions.

The draft of the “Critical Repair & Reinvestment Plan” and summaries are available for review and comment at any branch of the Louisville Free Public Library or MSD’s website at LouisvilleMSD.org/CriticalRepairPlan.

Representatives of the Louisville Metro Office of Sustainability will also speak on several new sustainability initiatives including: the cool roof rebate program; enhancements to the Green Infrastructure incentive program; and free technical assistance and verification for Energy Star Certifications.

As with all D9 Community Conversations, discussion of any other subjects is welcome and I will be available to talk with constituents about any questions, comments or concerns.  Mark your calendar - and bring along a friend or neighbor.

Sustainability Story: FREE Tree Giveaways

Free Tree Giveaway

Louisville Metro Division of Community Forestry is hosting free tree giveaways on three Saturdays: March 18, 25 and April 15. This is a continued effort to assist Louisville to reach the goal of 45% tree canopy cover by 2040.

  • March 18th from Noon – 2:00 p.m. at Beechland Baptist Church in the Pleasure Ridge Park area (4613 Greenwood Drive)
  • March 25th from Noon – 2:00 p.m. at Jefferson Community and Technical College, Downtown Campus (2nd and Broadway)
  • April 15th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at University of Louisville’s Ernst Hall (216 Eastern Parkway)

There are fifteen (15) native species of trees to choose from and recipients can take home up to three (3) trees each (while supplies last).  Each tree that is distributed comes with a species specific fact sheet, directions on how to plant the tree, and water instructions.  The knowledgeable staff of the Division of Community Forestry will be on hand to assist recipients with their tree selection.

Recipients need to provide proof that they are a resident of Louisville (Jefferson County), and agree to plant the tree on private property, and to care for it.  The trees that are going to be distributed are in three (3) gallon containers and are easily transported home in a compact car.

We’d like to feature your sustainability story - a resident or business doing good things for the environment.  Riding the bus, bicycling, walking, gardening and more - our eNews will feature practices which can benefit all of us.  Send your story to Bill Hollander or Kyle Ethridge
