Welcome: Getting Connected

Welcome to the first edition of District 8 eNews, and Happy New Year!  This bi-weekly bulletin is part our strategy to communicate with District 8 stakeholders more regularly and across more channels than in the past.  We’re aiming to deliver timely, actionable information and facilitate a continuing conversation about the issues affecting the Highlands area, the City of Louisville, how Metro Government works – and how it can work better.

A large part of our strategy is digital and social, including: a revamped Metro Council District 8 website; Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts; and a Nextdoor account, podcast and YouTube channel, all coming soon!  Our goal is to digitally connect with 8,000 of the 16,029 households and businesses in District 8 by 2019 (including 2,000 by 2017) because knowledge is power and 8,000 heads are better than two for solving problems related to crime, development and the condition of our neighborhoods.  So, please take a moment to Subscribe & Stay Informed and be in touch often with your thoughts, ideas and constructive criticisms!

While digital is a critical part of our plan, we intend to increase our physical presence in District 8, too.  This starts with the grand opening of the Metro Council District 8 Satellite Office at the Douglass Community Center, 2305 Douglass Boulevard, on Wednesday February 15th at 6pm.  We’re absolutely thrilled to be setting-up shop at the DCC, and we intend to use its wonderful meeting spaces early and often for informational, organizational and other thought-provoking public meetings and events.  Additionally, we’ll have regular open office hours at the DCC on Fridays from 1-4pm, with appointments available, beginning Friday, February 17th.  Come on over and see us!

Finally, in terms of communication, there are still thousands of District 8 residents who do not use the internet, so we’ll be developing a strategy to make sure they don’t get left in the dark.  This is a challenge because the regular use of snail mail is cost-prohibitive, so please send us your ideas.  We’d also love to hear what other topics and information you’d like to see featured in these pages (or if you’d like to help in its production).  Email me anytime at: brandon.coan@louisvilleky.gov and please copy jasmine.masterson@louisvilleky.gov or call 574-1108.

Thanks Very Much,
