Officers will issue a citation to the owners of any vehicles that they observe running and unoccupied starting next week.

This enforcement will be done in an effort to deter people from leaving their vehicles running and unattended, which creates an opportunity for criminals.

Eastern Parkway water main replacement underway - stay informed

Eastern Parkway water main work

The Eastern Parkway water main replacement project is underway. Crews are working near the Medical Arts complex, which means one westbound lane of Eastern Parkway near Poplar Level Road to Barret Avenue will be closed for approximately five weeks. Generally, construction will move east toward Cherokee Park.

In addition to the work along Eastern Parkway, one lane of Willow Avenue at the intersection of Eastern Parkway will be closed November 9 to 11. The road will remain open for local access.

A second closure will involve the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Norris. This work will be limited to approximately 6 hours on Monday, November 14.

Crews will also be working on mains in side streets that tie into the 48-inch pipe along Eastern Parkway, installing new valves and digging for construction pits.

Louisville Water will continue to update customers on the impact of the project. Communications channels include emails, Twitter updates, a dedicated web page at LouisvilleWater.com/EasternPkwyProject showing construction and traffic, and frequent media updates.

Be aware - LG&E work planned along Bardstown Road

LG&E Work map

LIHEAP automated system will help clients schedule appointments to apply for heating help

LIHEAP

A new automated telephone and online appointment system will help clients schedule appointments to apply for home energy assistance. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides financial assistance to help income eligible residents pay utility bills.

Citizens will be able to make appointments by calling 502-991-8391 or by going to http://www.louisvilleky.cascheduler.com.

The system, which will operate 24 hours per day, seven days a week, provides a confirmation number indicating that an appointment was successfully scheduled.

Also new this year: Four Neighborhood Place sites will be open for LIHEAP application appointments, in addition to the Newburg Community Center/East (4810 Exeter Avenue) and the Southwest Government Center (7219 Dixie Highway).

  • Northwest Neighborhood Place/Academy at Shawnee, 4018 W Market Street.
  • South Central Neighborhood Place, 4255 Hazelwood Avenue.
  • Neighborhood Place Ujima/Duvalle Education Center, 3610 Bohne Avenue.
  • Neighborhood Place/Bridges of Hope, 1411 Algonquin Parkway.

Appointments will no longer be made at the Urban Government Center at 810 Barret Avenue, which has been moved to Middletown.

Individuals who are unable to apply for this program in person may send a representative on their behalf with a note including the applicant’s signature and phone number. Call 574-1157 for more details on how this process works. Residents who are homebound and who are unable to send a representative may call 502-485-7230 ext. 2239.

For required documentation, locations and times for pre-registration, click here or contact MetroCall 311 by dialing 311 or 574-5000.

810 Neighborhood Place relocates to Middletown, renamed Charmoli Center

Reminder: the 810 Neighborhood Place has moved to the East Government Center in Middletown, and is now known as the Charmoli Center in honor of Jane Charmoli, one of Neighborhood Place’s founding champions.

The relocation allows Neighborhood Place to expand its footprint to a part of the city underserved by this agency. About 18,000 families in the zip codes served at the new location qualify for the school free or reduced lunch program. The 810 Barret location was previously the most eastern Neighborhood Place.

The Charmoli Center will house staff from multiple agencies — Louisville Metro Community Services, Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Seven Counties Services, Inc. —in one accessible location. Core services provided include:

  • Financial and housing assistance with case management services
  • Juvenile and school-related services
  • Child abuse intervention and prevention
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
  • Medicaid Assistance
  • Substance abuse assessment
  • A Dare to Care emergency food pantry
  • Self-sufficiency programs

All agency email addresses and phone numbers, including the main front desk line of 574-6638, will remain the same. The Charmoli Center will have ample, free parking at the new location, which is also accessible by a couple of TARC bus routes. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A total of eight Neighborhood Places, along with two satellite sites, serve residents across Jefferson County. To find a Neighborhood Place in their area, residents may call 311 or 574-5000, or visit https://louisvilleky.gov/government/neighborhood-place.

ATT Access to provide low-cost internet plans to eligible households

Access to the internet is no longer a luxury. It is a necessity. Citizens need access to the internet in order to apply for jobs, access educational resources and government services. Households and individuals that do not have access to a home internet connection are at a disadvantage.

Due to recent actions by the Federal Government, Internet Service Providers are starting to offer low-cost internet plans to eligible households. Right now, AT&T is the only internet service provider in Louisville offering low-cost internet plans to qualified individuals.

Its plan is called "AT&T Access". It costs between $5 and $10 a month for a home network and modem with no installation or activation charges, and it is available to residents that have at least one member in their household enrolled in the SNAP program.

For more information, please visit:https://www.att.com/shop/internet/access/#/

AT&T retail stores are not able to process Access from AT&T applications or orders. You must access the application on the website and submit the form online or via email. You may also print the form and send via fax or mail. If you experience difficulties with the online form, you can contact an AT&T representative by phone at 855.220.5211. (For help in Spanish, call 855.220.5225.)

Or mulch leaves into your lawn

Mowing tree leaves in the autumn and returning them to the turf system is an outstanding alternative to raking and bagging. Studies have shown the positive effects of mowing tree leaves into lawns. To do this, take the grass catcher off your mower and mow over the leaves on your lawn. You want to reduce your leaves to dime-size pieces. You’ll know you’re done when about half an inch of grass can be seen through the mulched leaf layer.
