Thank you to everyone for joining us this week for
"Talk With David"
If you have a question please call the office at 574-1125.
Friday, President David Yates joined the Kentucky Lottery Corporation and the family members of Mr. Arch Gleason, the 23 year President and CEO of the Kentucky Lottery Corporation. As President, Arch oversaw the awarding of $2.5 billion in college scholarships and grants to over 660,000 students across the Commonwealth. Arch provided so much more to his family and to the workers of the Kentucky Lottery Corporation.
In honor and thanks for his years of dedication and service to our city and Commonwealth President Yates bestowed an honorary street sign entitled, "Arch Gleason Way" to the family of Mr. Gleason and honorarily renamed Chapel Street between Main and Market Streets in front of the Kentucky Lottery Headquarters in Downtown Louisville.
A special thank you to both Chip Polston and Mike Bronger of the Kentucky Lottery, Ellen Hesen representing the Mayor's Office and the countless members of the community touched by Arch's wisdom and compassion, without you this would not have been possible.

 See
the latest scams in BBB’s October 2016 Hot Topics
1. Protect
yourself from identify theft! Attend BBB’s FREE document shredding and electronic recycling
event on Oct. 15 from 6 am to 11 am at
12501 Shelbyville Rd, Louisville, in the Kroger parking lot. Bring up to 4
large boxes or bags of documents for shredding. Accepted items for electronic
recycling include cell phones, PC towers and laptops. Printers and
computer monitors cannot be accepted.
2. Don’t fall for fake Facebook emails. Scammers create an account
with an official sounding name, so victims think the comment has come directly
from Facebook. It states, “One of your friends added a photo of you,” and
includes a link for the user to log into their account. This link redirects the
user to a fake Facebook page, which phishes for personal information.
3. In a fake check overpayment scam, a local consumer was contacted about putting advertising on his
vehicle for an energy drink. The man received a check for $1,950 with
instructions to keep $1,895 and wire $55 to someone who would be sent over to
wrap the vehicle. Don’t fall for it.
4. A local consumer received a call from someone who claimed to be
with Reader’s Digest, saying they
had won a new truck. All he had to do was go to the closest Wal-Mart and wire
$389 to cover the taxes. If you receive a call like this, hang up! This is a
scam.
5. Local consumers say they are receiving calls from scammers who are
using BBB’s good name. The scammers are using various scenarios to phish for personal
information. One scammer even claimed the consumer was being sued. BBB does NOT
make these types of calls.
6. A new scam is targeting seniors, preying on fears that they could
lose Social Security benefits. Seniors
receive a letter that appears to be from a nonprofit advocacy group claiming
that Congress is attempting to abolish Social Security. The letter states this
group is mailing referendum ballots to seniors to allow them to vote to keep
the government program. The group asks for a $16.45 donation.
7. There’s
no such thing as the Instagram Ugly List 2016,
but currently there’s a message circulating that tags recipients saying they've
been added to the list. There's a link to the supposed list, but it's a gateway
to a hacking scam. Your account will be compromised and the Ugly List message
will be sent out to all your Instagram friends in your name.
8. Dozens
of consumers in Kentucky and other states have filed complaints with BBB about The Nerd Cave, a custom T-shirt company based in
Seymour, Conn., for failing to deliver their merchandise after they have paid
for it. The company advertises on social media and well-known websites, and its
owner has refused to address the pattern of complaints.
9. One
local consumer received a fake Facebook message from a woman claiming to work for Facebook who stated
that CEO Mark Zuckerberg has authorized her to award the consumer a prize of
$500,000. Don’t respond to this scam.
10. Be
on the lookout for fake “Notice of Reward” postcards that state you have an unclaimed reward on your
account and that, “we are holding $100 in savings for you, good at Wal-Mart,
Target, and many more.” The postcard urges you to call their phone number to
reserve your reward. This could be an attempt to steal your personal
information.

Update as of 8/25/16
Hall contracting is
indeed beginning work in the area from Bethany lane to Stonestreet road. Before
traffic can be shifted in this section to the north bound side of the roadway,
a storm sewer pipe must first be installed across Dixie highway at Fazoli's.
After
this shoulder is safe for traffic, lanes will be shifted from Bethany to
Stonestreet so storm sewer work can begin in the area in front of Valley High
School.
It is important that most of the storm sewer work be completed before
much of the asphalt can be placed. The contractor currently does not have
any utility or tree delays. Crews are actively working under night time lane
closures. Some lane closures are kept in place during the day to protect the
construction work that is underway.

Develop Louisville needs the participation of youth, young
adults and young professionals in updating Louisville's Comprehensive Plan.
What is a Comprehensive Plan and why does Louisville
have one?
A comprehensive plan establishes a framework to guide
public and private decisions about future growth, preservation and changes
within a local government.
Louisville Metro adopted its current comprehensive plan,
known as Cornerstone 2020, on June 15, 2000. Cornerstone 2020, which has
a planning timeframe of 2000 to 2020, provides the framework for Louisville and
Jefferson County’s land development regulations and policies (including the
Land Development Code). The document describes the community’s direction for
future development and growth. It also recommends policies and projects
to achieve its desired results.
As future community leaders, you are the ones most
impacted by the updated plan that will guide our community's growth to 2040 and
we need to hear from you!
Here is the link to share. It is ready for your answers!
