About 100 residents squeezed into the Cyril Allgeier
Community Center Wednesday evening to hear about and comment on rezoning the
old Kmart building at 4025 Poplar Level Road.
Clifford Ashburner of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP led the
meeting, joined by officials from Citadel Storage Partners I, the proposed developer of the property. They
plan to build climate-controlled self storage in the old store building.
The plan included the existing Wendy’s restaurant and
proposed two additional out lots in what had been Kmart parking with the hope
of trying to attract food establishments to occupy those lots.
Councilman Mulvihill’s office received inquiries about
requesting an evening meeting, since Planning Commission meetings are normally

Junk pickup service provided by the Solid Waste Management Division of Metro Public Works collects bulk waste items like tires, appliances and tree stumps set out by residents at their regular curbside trash collection points.

Metro
Parks and Recreation will be removing 48 dead/dying Ash trees on the city's
parkways over the next several weeks, including more than 20 along Eastern
Parkway.
Trees to be removed have been deemed unsalvageable or unsafe and will be replaced. Be aware that tree removal may result in lane closures or delays, and use caution around the crews.
  The
city of Watterson Park will hold their community-wide yard sale Saturday,
September 24 Streets expected to participate include Regina Avenue, Milldaun
Road, Annshire Avenue, Conaem Drive, Newburg Road between the Gardiner Lane
intersection and Metro Animal House, Larkmoor Lane, Champions Trace, and Bantam
Court.
 The
St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer is Saturday, September 24 at Broad
Run Park at 10899 Bardstown Road. Registration starts at 8 a.m., with the
walk/run beginning at 9 a.m.

The twelfth annual St. Stephen Martyr Health Fair will be Sunday, September 25 at the church Activities
Center off Hess Lane at English Avenue and Greenup Road from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The health fair includes more than 50 exhibits, door prizes, giveaways, refreshments, mammograms, flu shots,
University of Louisville athletes, podiatrist, chiropractor, and more. This fair is FREE and open to the
public, and fun for all ages. Canned goods will be collected for the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, and new and used shoes will be collected by WaterStep.

Metro Parks and Recreation is hosting 12 public meetings during September, October
and November to receive feedback on future park amenities including dog parks,
skate parks and walking/hiking trails.
The meetings will take place once each week for 12 weeks at four
sites: the East Government Center in Middletown; Sun Valley Community Center in
southwest Louisville; the Portland Community Center in the Portland
neighborhood in west Louisville; and the Cyril Allgeier Community Center in the
Camp Taylor neighborhood just off the Watterson Expressway.
If residents can't attend a meeting, they are encouraged to send
comments about these topics and others to parks@louisvilleky.gov.
