The Iroquois Library Staff and Friends of the Iroquois Library
hosted a lunch meeting Wednesday to facilitate a conversation with Jim Blanton,
the new LFPL Director, Chandra Gordon, Executive Director of the Library
Foundation, Ky Senator, Perry Clark, St. Representative Jeff Donohue and
Councilman Dan Johnson and other notable members of the community.
|
They discussed the many ways the library is involved and relevant
in today's society. The Iroquois Library provides services to a wide and
diverse range of customers. Included beyond books, audio books, and
downloadable books are events and exhibits, computers, wireless internet
service, business information data, college & career resources, bookmobile,
meeting rooms, immigrant services, music corner, tax help, English conversation
clubs and much more. The most amazing aspect of these services is they
are all free to the residents of Louisville.
Support,
involvement and advocacy are necessary ingredients in keeping our libraries up
to the standards we have come to expect in this community. The second regional library is currently under
construction and the last one is in the planning stages. With the completion of the three regional
libraries, Louisville will have 18 libraries poised to meet the continuing needs of
this community well into the 21st century.
- Don't have your Library card? Get it.
- It's free and all that goes with it!
- Consider being a "Friend of the Libraries".

Everything about this year's Taste of South Louisville was
fantastic -- the 700 in attendance, the 34 sponsors, as well
as the 21 vendors. Sponsors of
this year's Taste included Metro Council Members, Marianne Butler, Dan Johnson, Vicki
Aubrey-Welch, Rick Blackwell, and Cindi
Fowler. The group pictured below; Bryan Mathews, D21 LA, Barbara Nichols, D21 staff, McKenzie Cantrell, Churchill Charlie, Stefanie Buzan, CW Vicki Aubrey-Welch, and Beth Thorpe, all took time out from their tasting for this picture.
Recognized for their long-time support of Taste were:
Jimbo's Bar-B-Que, Rubbies Southside Grill and Bar, Shack in the Back
BBQ, Tuscany Italian Restaurant and Seven-Up Snapple Bottling Group. All
vendors were presented certificates of appreciation.
New vendors this year were Bill's Famous Cheese Spreads, China
Coast, Fairdale Pizza, Nord's Bakery and Valley Dairy Freeze. South Louisville Community Ministries
encourages everyone to patronize the vendors who were present. The food
was outstanding and they would certainly appreciate the business!
Thanks
to all -- volunteers, staff, members of the Board of Directors, donors, vendors
and sponsors. A special thanks go to the guests who attended this year's record-breaking
Taste of South Louisville.

Residents met at Heritage Green Apartments with Off. Lamont Washington, 4th Div. and CM Dan Johnson to begin a Peace Walk through the surrounding neighborhood last Tuesday.

4th Division officers were a big hit with the children on their 4-wheelers.
Children came out to talk to the officers and connect with them on a personal level. The goal of these walks throughout Louisville is to get to know your neighbors, the police officers who serve the neighborhood and work toward peace in the community.
The next scheduled walk in the 3rd Division is in the Glengarry Area Tuesday August 29 at 6:00pm. Meet at Glengarry/Buckingham Dr.

 As the
Labor Day weekend approaches, families and friends are making plans to
celebrate the end of the summer. Sadly, this festive time has also become a
dangerous time for motorists, as many impaired drivers get behind the wheel.
For this reason, state and local law enforcement agencies are
joining the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) and officers across the
nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Aug. 19 to Sept.
5.
For those in the Louisville area, Brown-Forman partnered with
the Drive Sober Get Pulled campaign to support safe rides during the campaign
time frame. Use code SAFERIDEKY for $15 off your ride with Taxi 7, Uber and
CityScoot.
Please visit www.saferideky.com for more
information on safe ride discounts.

 MSD
wants you to know that anyone in Louisville Metro can purchase flood insurance.
Lenders require flood insurance for those inside the mapped floodplain. Those
who live outside of these areas can still be at risk for flooding.
|
 More
than 20-percent of all National Flood Insurance Program flood insurance claims
are from areas outside the mapped high-risk areas. Just a few inches of water
from a flood can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage. Protect yourself
and your home by calling your insurance agent to learn more about flood
insurance or by going to www.floodsmart.gov

Louisville is now a Nextdoor city. You'll soon be able to find
city information related to your specific neighborhood on the website at www.nextdoor.com
or on the company's mobile application. It creates private social networks
for conversations within neighborhoods that cannot be seen by other areas,
and allows the city to direct information to those neighborhoods. Metro
Police was the first city department to use the service to deliver targeted
information. Public Works and other departments will soon follow. In the
meantime, Louisville residents can register at Nextdoor to join the
conversations that may already be going on among their neighbors.
