Minimum Wage Increases to $8.25

Sigma

For the second straight year, Louisville's minimum wage has gone up. After July 1, Louisvillians at minimum wage - over 45,000 of us - can expect to see 50 cents more an hour (before taxes) as the second stage of the 2014 minimum wage ordinance takes effect.

“This first year of increasing the minimum wage has shown us it was the right thing to do. Everyone has benefited, and when you look at what has happened since we acted, other companies have raised their minimum wage and we are beginning to narrow the pay inequity gap that has held so many people back for so long,” said Councilman David James. The Sixth District was one of the primary sponsors of the ordinance approved by the Metro Council in December 2014.

Despite fears of layoffs and unemployment, Jefferson County's unemployment rate has fallen this year to 4.3%.
