Paving to Begin on 3rd Street Road Diet

3rd

Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21) is advising motorists to be aware of road paving and possible traffic delays for South Third Street beginning on Monday, June 6th.

“When the work on this section of South Third Street is completed, there will be a much smoother traffic flow,” says Johnson. “Drivers must be patient over the next three weeks during the paving. There will be some delays and lane changes, so be advised.”

Road crews will be converting South Third Street between the Watterson Expressway to Kenwood Drive into a “road diet”. The conversion will turn four lanes into three lanes with the middle lane designated as a turn lane. The crew will be working between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm.

Traffic will be adjusted based on volume and location during the paving. Crews may also work on the weekends during the three week period depending on the weather in order to avoid delays.

There will be message boards in place to notify drivers of the upcoming construction.  Flaggers will be on hand to help the flow of traffic during the work.

Free Naloxone Training for Overdose Prevention

Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21) and President David Yates (D-25) are partnering with the Kentucky Harm Reduction Coalition to sponsor a free training session on Heroin/Opioid Overdose prevention this coming Tuesday, June 7th.

“These training sessions are important throughout our community in order to save lives. Saving a life often results in that person seeking much needed treatment for their addiction and I am happy to help facilitate this conversation for District 21,” says Johnson.

Americana World Festival June 4

This Saturday, the celebration continues with the 26th Annual Americana World Festival which highlights many heritages from around the world – and across the Bluegrass – with live music, local and international cuisine, goods, crafts and more.

“The Americana Community Center is truly a remarkable place that assists over 100 different nationalities in District 21 and the rest of Louisville Metro and helps us understand the world we live in,” says Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21). “This year, the Festival has a special focus on funding programs for young people to help educate and inspire them.”

The festival is a free, family-oriented event that features a different take on a popular event: the 5K Run/Walk. This dusk run will be at 7:30pm during the festival and will be on an open course through Iroquois Park.

  • The Kids’ Zone will be from 1:00-8:00PM
  • Music lineup 1:00pm - 9:00pm
  • 5K Dusk Run at 7:30pm. You’ll “Run the World” – or at least through Iroquois Park
  • FOOD:  Latin American, Indian, African (beignets, samosas), Vietnamese (Vietnamese pancakes), German (homemade beer cheese!), Italian, Belizean (stew red kidney beans and cured pigtails), Greek Deli, Jamaican, and of course there will be funnel cakes
