Thank you for coming out for the Annual D9 FREE Responsible Recycling event last Saturday on River Road. This was the most successful year yet with 450 vehicles dropping off various items to be recycled or reused. Click here to view a photo album from the event. Truckloads of hazardous materials, household items, medical equipment, paper and other items will either be safely disposed of or reused.
There was some confusion regarding the collection or older, non-working TVs, for which we are sorry. We will be attempting to bring a vendor next year that will be able to collect older TVs and CRT monitors. In the meantime, residents may dispose of electronics, including older TVs and CRT monitors, up to three items or systems per visit, at no charge at the Louisville Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue. The center is open Tuesday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. For specifics on what will be collected, please visit: https://louisvilleky.gov/government/public-works/electronics-recycling.

The Rush Inn may get new life as Mellwood Tavern
Longtime bar and grill The Rush Inn may finally have a buyer after years on the market.
Louisville residents Briana Clemerson, Scott Crowder and Patrick Gregory have filed a notice in The Courier-Journal that they plan to apply for a liquor license for a business called Mellwood Tavern, located at 1801 Brownsboro Road — the address of The Rush Inn.
Given the name, it seems that the property will continue to house a bar and restaurant.
IL reported more than two years ago that The Rush Inn owner Jeff Rand was looking to sell the 131-year-old building and the business. Back then, his asking price was $545,000.
Jim Harbolt, a Realtor with Gant Hill & Associates who is representing Rand, said the sale is still pending. The trio needs to complete a few stipulations before the sale can go through and is still finalizing financing, he said.

Louisville/Jefferson County residents can help shape the city’s 10-year Solid Waste Master Plan by taking a 5-minute confidential online survey. The survey seeks information about how citizens handle waste and what they pay to dispose of it. Development of the 10-year Solid Waste Master Plan got underway last fall. The plan is focused on Mayor Greg Fischer’s goal of diverting 90 percent of the community’s solid waste away from landfills by the year 2042.

Botanica and the Waterfront Botanical Gardens are hosting a Beargrass Creek Canoe Tour with David Wicks on Saturday, May 28 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Attendees should plan to meet at the Louisville Community Boathouse, 1325 River Road. This event features a 3-hour canoe tour with host David Wicks, who has dedicated much of his life's work to the history and current clean-up efforts of Beargrass Creek. This event is open to both Botanica members and non-members. The Louisville Metro Council has teamed up with the Louisville Bats to provide tickets to deserving groups in the community for certain games. Metro Council Monday tickets are available to non-profit organizations, charitable groups, and volunteer organizations working to improve our city. Please reference your Metro Council District, the name of your organization, and the number of tickets being requested. The District 9 office recently allocated $150 of D9 Neighborhood Development Funds (NDF) to the Center For Neighborhoods. The funding will provide an opportunity for ten District 9 residents to attend the 2016 Neighborhood Summit and covers the cost of each ticket at $15 per participant.
